I would like to participate in some IDPA and 3 gun matches once I move back to Louisiana, and want to know what all I will need, gear wise, in order to participate.

I have the following firearms and gear:

Glock 35
6 15 round magazines

Bushmaster Shorty HBAR
More USGI 30 round magazines than I know what to do with

Remington 870 Express 20" w/rifle sights. I posted about wanting a new stock and mag extension in the High Power club, but any advice here would be appreciated.

First of all, I KNOW that the race gun guys are going to stomp me, and that's fine...I just want to hone my skills with my weapons, and be play my own "game within a game" so to speak. I do not have a holster, belt, mag holders, or any other of the supporting hardware to play.

I am a rather large dude, (6'4", 280 lbs), and need to know who has the best holsters, belts, mag pouches, and other stuff will I need, and the less I look like a ninja, the better.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I use a Blade-Tech belt holster and two Blade-Tech single mag pouches. I know a lot of people that use Comp-Tac and they seem okay also. I use a heavy 1 1/2" gunbelt from Dillon. A lot of people like the Wilderness Instructor belt. Make sure you have good eye and ear protection also. You'll need a cover garment to conceal your pistol. I use a 5.11 Tactical vest.

Your pistol is fine for IDPA in the SSP or ESP divisions (depending on what, if any, modifications have been done to the pistol). It will also be a good choice for USPSA/IPSC Production, Limited 10, or Limited divisions. It will work well in 3-gun as well.

A cheap kydex paddle holster and two magazine carriers (two singles or one double) work well in IDPA. The same setup, with 4 magazine carriers, will get you started in USPSA, though you may want to get better gear later on if you continue with the Limited 10 or Limited divisions. For 3-gun, don't forget AR magazine carriers and shotgun shell holders.

The your AR will get you started in 3-gun. You might want to add or modify it after you get some experience, but do that _after_ shooting a few matches.

The pump gun is usually considered slower than a semi-auto, but the big time losses are in reloading, so a good reload can make up for alot.

There are no race guns in IDPA. They can be found USPSA, but they are in a separate division from the one you would likely be shooting in. More than likely you will get stomped in your first few matches. Not because of equipment, but because the other folks know the game better and have practiced for it.
