After approval

So I just found out I was approved for a .22 suppressor on 10/21. What's next in the process? The lady answering the phone said something will be mailed out, I assume approval papers. Are the papers sent to me or the dealer? How long should I wait for the papers?

The guy in charge of transfers at the gun store near me didn't seem to thrilled to have to actually work. So I'd like to know how much longer I have to wait before I need to start letting him know I'm anxious.

They will send your approved form 4 back to the dealer. It should not take more than a couple of weeks worst case for him to get your paper work. He should call you when it arrives so you can go pick it up. Maybe you need to find another dealer if this person is acting the way you said.

Yeah I had my concerns when the paper work was started. The gun store had a sale going on and I had just graduated from college so I was a bit pumped up and not overly concerned. I have since found a few more places that can do transfers they just don't have the items in stock so I have to know exactly what I want and can't feel it or demo it. I kind of think that the guy is full of himself. Since there is only one guy in the gun store that is qualififed to do the transfers I think he lets that go to his head knowing that if you want an NFA item you have to deal with him.

Hopefully your examiner is one of the new ones, who is in the new office and not one of the dregs of humanity that filled the Wash DC office, they are doing pretty good follow through, Before it could take easily a month after approval to mail the forms. They will goto your gunshop. He will contact you when he gets the forms, He should at least.

When did they cash your check? I have been waiting for 3 months now and expect to be waiting at least 3 more. Does anybody have an idea of how long it's taking right now?

If you have been waiting more then 3 months for a form 4 transfer someone whould be calling the examiner's supervisor.

Okay so I called my dealer and I got everything finalized.

Here's my story:

My check was cashed on June 01, 2005. I saw that my check was cashed and called the ATF to find out about the process. I was told I was not in their system when I called on June 2nd. This got me worried and I thought they lost my paperwork. I put a post up here and asked about lost paperwork. I was told that you don't go into the system until you go "pending", the pending status can also take up to one month to start after they cash your check. On top of that, your three month wait starts once you go pending so it can really be more like four months. I called two weeks later and still nothing, not even pending. So I decided it was best to forget about it for a few months. I figured I could raise hell at a later date and actually have something to be mad at rather than just trying to get to the front of the line. Come October I realized that I should be hearing something. So I called the ATF on October 24th and I was told I was approved on October 21st. After that I called my dealer and let him know that I knew I was approved. The next day (10/25) I called my dealer again and the he said my paper from the ATF had arrived and I could come pick up my suppressor. So I left work early on Tuesday and went to the store to pick up my new toy.

Looking at the Form 4 that I got back the front has "Dawn Henson and OCT 20 2005" stamped on it. The back has "JUN 02 2005" stamped on it. So now I'm wondering was I pending on Jun 2nd? I mailed in my form at the end of May and it took a few days for the check to clear. I had called twice after I saw my check clear and was told I wasn't even in the system.

I don't how they keep track of things on their computers but it seems a bit weird. I know I heard the lady answering the phone tell me I was approved on Oct 21 yet my paper is stamped Oct 20. I have no clue what the Jun 02 is supposed to mean because my check cleared on Jun 1st so I know they got my paperwork before that date.

Thanks for the advice. I called this morning and they said I was approved on 10/25. They cashed the check on 8/17. The paperwork arrived today, so I went down to the dealer and picked it up.
