View Full Version : Does anyone know for sure, the # of the recoil springs ?
I would actually like to replace my plastic guide rod later on, but I want it as close to stock as possible. Definetly want a good quality rod and spring, captured preferribly.

IIRC all Glocks are built with 17 pound recoil springs. I have heard of people using up to 24lbs. in some calibers such as 10mm and 357Sig. YMMV

The G32's factory spring weight is 18pds (same as the G19, don't know why Glock didn't go with 20 pounder for a hotter round). I am runninig a 22lb. IMSI spring on a SS captured guide rod with factory .357 loads without a hiccup..D
I just ordered a 22# myself with the Wolff Uncaptured Rod
:)
My "Crack-Pot" reasoning was this:
Sigs use a 15# spring in their 9mm's, the Glocks use a 17# spring (+2#)
Sigs use a 20# spring in their .40's&.357sigs so naturally that would bump the Glock up to a 22# spring ;)

If its the same as the 19, doesnt that mean its putting extra stress on the gun by slamming the slide back so hard ?

If I remember correctly, Glocks rely on slide weight more so than recoil spring rate. The slides for the "hotter" rounds are heavier so recoil impact/movement is slowed down.

The slide weight (including barrels) of the G19 and G23/G32 are neglible. The current G17/22/31 framed guns come with a 17lb recoil spring as the G19/23/32 framed guns come with an 18lb recoil spring assembly. For the 37 (.45GAP) gun, Glock realized that they couldn't pack that much punch in a G22 slide/frame combo with just a heavier spring (for longterm durability concerns and timing problems with magazines), that is why they went with a heavier slide ala the slighty rounded G21 one..

You are absolutely correct on that matter. That is why I would go a minimum of a 20lb recoil spring upgrade for the G32/23 or even the 22lb spring which I am running with right now.
Is the rods from Glockmeister good ?

I buy most of my Glock stuff from Glockmeister and Lone Wolf..
Are you using the 22#in your duty weapon ?

No modifications are allowed on duty guns except for nite sites..
Ohhhh, I see.
I was going to say if you felt safe enough using it in a duty pistol, I definetly felt safe about putting one in mine...lol
I'm going to order the 22# on a captured SS rod.

My personal G32 has the 22lb spring with over 300rds of factory (GoldDot, Ranger T and Remington UMC) .357 through it without any problems with the exception of the S&B ammo (hard primers that have 5-7 failures to ignite in a box of 50). Have yet to try the DoubleTap GoldDot round but I'm sure there won't be problem with it..

Does the heavier spring slow down your splits?
