Subaru Windshield Wiper question

On my gf's Subary Legacy, there is a thick piece of black plastic on the left windshield wiper. It looks like it belongs there, but it's only on the left wiper and we can't figure out it's purpose.

Any ideas on what it might be for?

Kinda looks like an airfoil? That's what it is. It keeps the wiper planted at higher speeds. There is none on the passenger side because if your going fast enough to need it the passenger won't want to look anyway.
