Just curious. I've had a PPK/S for years and it seems to get very heavy after a short time of carry. I'm wondering if the Glock 26 is going to be much lighter.

I'm wondering if the Glock 26 is going to be much lighter. PMY 10-26-2005, 11:46 I carry a PPK in a front pocket holster. Its not to bad walking around, certainly eaiser to deal with than my CZ 75 or full size 1911, but its not light either. Don't have experience with the Glock, but while I'm sure its lighter, its certainly not as pretty! BadLight 10-26-2005, 19:41 I doubt that the G26 will be much "lighter".... Wather PPK/s in a FIST pocket holster... that's about as "light" as it gets, short of a Seacamp .32 michael t 10-27-2005, 01:25 Mine in my pocket right now has been since 7;30AM I have never thought the PPK/S heavy Try a 5" 1911 for a while. They get heavy I belive the PPK/S is about the perfect pocket gun. Well the Colt Mustang is in their also. Besides against a Glock I choose the PPK/S every time, no matter what caliber of the glock. I am not a fan of glocks. BK63 10-27-2005, 07:30 I have a little Charter Arms 38 special that is very small and very light but prefer to carry a few more shots. What ammo do you all use in your ppk's ? bulbboy 10-27-2005, 13:55 I have a Glock 27 and a PPK/S. The Walther is a bit heavier but its thinner. There are trade offs - I don't like to carry either in my front pocket - but thats me. A good belt/holster solves most problems. for my walther a pocket holster from K & D Holsters or a IWB from Donner Gunleather. The Glock I use a Galco Glove Ankle Holster, Milt Sparks Versa Max 2, or a OWB Belt Defender from K & D Holsters. I love my Glocks BUT I agree with PMY - Nothing is prettier than a Walther PPK/S!! www.kdholsters.com www.miltsparks.com www.donnergunleather.com BadLight 10-27-2005, 19:30 What ammo do you all use in your ppk's ? Self Defense: 90 Grain Speer Gold Dot loaded just a "squich" hot (1020 fps but high chamber pressures... all the gun has to do is hold together for the 8 rounds... the gun is expendable, I'm not!) or, off-the-shelf, Federal 90 Grain Hydra Shock (the PPK/s will shoot that all day). Target: any decent quality 380 will do. Now if they are wearing a lot of heavy, layered clothing, I just pass on the 380 and give them a 230 Grain EFMJ .45 ACP round at 850 fps from My G36. If it don't kill them it'll sure knock them on their butt. 'nuff said. Cheers! tat2guy 10-28-2005, 00:39 My PPK is my "summer gun" as it can be concealed under a t-shirt in an IWB holster very easily, and generaly the bad guys of summer won't be wearing loads of heavy clothing to stop/slow/cause premature expansion of the l'il bullets. (It's also my "formal gun" in the cooler months, in a Galco Miami Classic shoulder rig under a suit or tuxedo jacket. It makes ya feel like James Bond to wear it under a tux...) The only time the weight bothers me is in a shoulder holster. It's a pretty light gun, even when loaded up with hydra-shoks and 2 extra mags. SmartOne 10-28-2005, 01:28 :) Sometimes when I'm wearing a lightweight suit I carry a Walther PPK-S in an El Paso Saddlery, 'Street Combat' pancake holster. This is an extremely narrow lightweight gun. (Sometimes I even forget that it's there!) To compensate for the light caliber I carry two extra magazines in an El Paso double pouch on my other hip. Great little gun for those times when a Model 21 is just too much pistol for the occasion! Gold Dots are fine. ;) michael t 10-28-2005, 18:54 Originally posted by BK63 I have a little Charter Arms 38 special that is very small and very light but prefer to carry a few more shots. What ammo do you all use in your ppk's ? I use the CorBon 90gr HP its rated at 1050FPS and 220 ftlbs The FPS was from a PPK/S .I am waiting for the new DPX in 380. Ive already tried the 45 compact and I sold on it for a SD round. FellowMan 11-05-2005, 18:40 I just took my new PPK/S to the range today. I shot about 150 rds and had three fail to battery and one fail to extract. The failures happened after about 80 rds when the gun was rather hot (pretty blue colors on the stainless barrel). I have to say, though, that I have put several hundred rds through my G26 and never had a failure.~2 Never a failure on my G21 or G23 as well. My uncalibrated hand believes the Walther is lighter. I would consider the Walther a good BUG at this point. I am a little miffed at the reliability.;T ^9 ~shame~ michael t 11-05-2005, 23:40 The failures happened after about 80 rds when the gun was rather hot (pretty blue colors on the stainless barrel). What do you prove by shooting a SD gun to the point its that hot I have never understood why people want to shoot that fast and that number of rounds with a pistol that if you need will only require 3 or 4 shoots at most. I rip off a full mag now and then but I have never gotton my PPK/S that hot. The PPK is not a assualt pistol its a pocket pistol. FellowMan 11-06-2005, 00:10 Well, I did not think I was shooting particularly fast. I did want to put the new gun through the paces, since I had purchased and returned a defective PPK/S about a year ago. Perhaps I was a little hard on the gun, but not any different than what I have put my G26 through without any failures. FWIW. michael t 11-07-2005, 01:36 OK ,We just have a different way of shooting . Ive just never in 50 + years of shooting got a pistol barrel that hot. I have heated a M-60 up a few times in late 60's and it wasn't at the range.;f HoustonHusker 11-23-2005, 21:31 Originally posted by FellowMan I just took my new PPK/S to the range today. I'm planning on getting a new S&W PPK/s and I'm soaking up as much info as I can. HH michael t 11-24-2005, 15:29 Houston: If that was directed to me Mine is a old Interarms I have looked at several new ones and they seem well made I find the tang different. It feels sort of like my bersa. I would give a good inspection to include removing slide. Ask sells person to do if you not sure on how to field strip. I have seen a couple complaints about rifleing on early ones. These S&W pistols are basicly good clean ,lube and shoot good factory ammo. Might be a little tight at first but they are trouble free for most part.. Most people have trouble with DA trigger to heavy If for real you won't notice it. You will get used to it . HoustonHusker 11-24-2005, 19:57 Thanks, michael, I'm also following your posts on S&W closely, too. HH michael t 11-24-2005, 23:43 Well come join us at http://bersatalk.com I am 1 of 2 mods (horge other) and spend more time their. After all Bersa Thunder is really a poor mans PPK Revolvr 12-08-2005, 22:00 If you like the PPK/S except for the weight, consider getting a blued or two-tone Sig P232. Also a good looking handgun IMHO, nearly identical dimensions, but the frame on these is alloy so it is much lighter. HoustonHusker 12-08-2005, 22:20 Revo, I checked them out and ended up getting the PPK/s. Actually, the PPK/s is just a tad smaller and a little bit heavier-but not by too much. I'm a huge Sig fan, but in .380 I think the Walther just kicks butt in the looks department...and mine is shooting VERY well. I've become a Walther lover in no time! Sorry I haven't been on this thread for a while. I am in the market for a good pocket holster or shoulder holster for my PPK/S. HoustonHusker 12-16-2005, 07:05 I just bought the brown one....and I love it! http://www.pocketholsters.com/Walther_PPK_PPKS_Pocket_Holste/walther_ppk_ppks_pocket_holste.html HH bulbboy 12-16-2005, 07:14 Originally posted by FellowMan S&W. K & D Holsters makes a great pocket holster for the PPK/S - www.kdholsters.com I really like mine! Stainless Chili 12-16-2005, 22:16 I picked up a very-finely crafted OWB leather holster for $15, from a guy on SigForum. Working where I am currently, layering, with a shirt hanging over it, the gun disappears. And the weight? Don't feel it a bit. It's all in the holster. Like when I found the right pocket holster for my PM9. Milt Sparks. That's when I started carrying it. Putting that PPK/S in my front pocket is the easiest way I've ever carried. HoustonHusker 12-26-2005, 20:01 That's great to hear, BK! I wear mine everyday and I'm amazed at how easily I forget it's in my pocket. I'm really glad you like yours, too! HH michael t 12-27-2005, 00:08 This can't be true a PPK/S is to big and heavy to carry in front pocket. I know that true all the Kel Tec owners say so. and other people. Why I must have had my pants fixed to carry tha large and heavy pistol in a pocket It will pull your pants down. I use a Don Hume pocket holster and his IWB also both work fine. I glad others are seeing how easy the PPK/S carries and you have better control and more punch with longer barrel and a little more weight to help with recoil . kenshi2 01-02-2006, 17:48 I had a PPK/S in my front pocket for 2 weeks last Summer on a Camping/Road Trip in a Uncle Mike Pocket Holster wearing shorts, even when i was sleeping in the tent. Carried great and often forgot that i even had it on me. HoustonHusker 01-02-2006, 18:12 They are great pocket guns. I notice mine very few times when I'm out.
