I just went and picked up my brand, spanking new Glock 35 last night, and all I can say is WOW. This gun feels, balances and points very well, looks wonderful, and is just a great feeling weapon.

I can hardly wait to get to the range this weekend, and give it a couple hundred rounds through it.

I love mine, head shots at 25 yards are a piece of cake. Well balanced and horribly accurate. What else could you ask for?
Enjoy.

Put some Dawson Precision fiber optic sights on it and it will be even better at distance. But be sure to use a holster that will accomodate the front sight as the sights are tall and may snag when drawing. I use Fobus but Safariland and Bladetech are good. Not sure about Comptac or similar brands because I have no experience with those.

I don't plan on carrying concealed with my G35, so I am looking at something that is IDPA approvable, but has more 'substance' than your typical IWB holster.

I was tempted in the thigh rigs, but those are a bit to ninjalike for me. Blade Tech has a duty holster I really like the looks of, but don't know if I should get the paddle design or the belt loop design, and there website says that there is a 5 week backorder...that blows.

Thanks for the heads up on the sites, I am going to give mine a workout as she came from Gaston, but will probably put a tungsten guide rod, spring, and sites on it later.

SH,

I'm not a big fan of IWB holsters myself. The ones I mentioned, I have used and still use for IDPA and are OWB paddles. Be careful on a couple of holsters as the IDPA rules are now "pickier". The quick fix is the Fobus but the Blade TEch is worth the wait for use.

Good luck and definitely shoot IDPA if you haven't.

I'm seriously considering getting a G35. I'm curious about the recoil, sights and ammos. My use would be for home defense with occasional firing at the range. This is the only Glock that fits my need (I think). My alternative would be a 1911. I hope you can make me decide. Please help. Thanks.

Just picked up my new G35 myself today. Like the other poster said. Headshots = noproblemo. I'm pretty much a noob and shot 50 in a row at 15yds. Now I just have to get a Dillon 650 to keep the wench fed:)http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c99/el_hombre70/Glock35left.jpg

I have fired all sorts of handguns, from .22's to .454 Cassuls, and well, I find the .40 in the G35 to be like this...you know it goes off, but it's just pleasant to shoot.

I am going to add a tungsten guiderod and 15 lb spring on mine, and see if that reduces the muzzle flip a bit.

I am probably going to start shooting a hot 135 grain JHP (double tap or corbon), and see how that works.

My FIL, who is quite honestly, the best combat shot I have ever seen, and a 35 year HPD veteran, LOVES my G35...in fact, when he was working undercover, he personally carried a pair of G23C's, and they replaced his HK USP. He told me if he was looking for a duty gun, the G35 would be it.

He said it this way, the HK is a GREAT gun, it's better built, better looking, and better finished than the Glock, but the Glock is just FASTER and works better...for a man that could carry anything, he opted for the Glock...that tells me a LOT.

thanks El_Hombre and Sir Hacksalot,
I really appreciate your comments.
Would you say the G35 is a lot better out of the box than most 1911's? How bad(or nasty) is the recoil of the G35. Sizewise, it approximates the 1911 Govt Model(standard). Can you use reload on the G35? Sorry if just this curious before getting my first piece. I trust your advice.
Again thanks a lot Compadre!

A $600 1911 will not hold a candle to an out of the box G35. That being said, comparing a G35 to a M1911 is like comparing a 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge to a 2005 Pontiac GTO...both are amazing machines, both are impressive, both are cars, and both are GTO's, but in the end, they are completely different.

The recoil 'impulse' is different between the two guns...to ME. The .45 ACP in the M1911 is a sluggish SHOVE, while the G35 is a snappier whip. Neither are harsh.

As for reloads, I choose not to reload. I can find enough inexpensive .40 S&W that I can't justify reloading...that and I am not attentive enough to trust myself.

The G35 will work, right out of the box...no doubt about it. A comparably 'priced' .45 WILL need some work...throat polishing to enhance feeding, a better bushing for accuracy, blah, blah, blah.

I love the old M1911 design, but the G35 is just a great working gun.

I've shot tuned 1911's that were big bucks and were fun to shoot but I just couldn't justify dropping $2000 into a pistol when I just dropped $1700 into a new deer rifle for my wife;f I've never been much into pistol shooting but decided to give IDPA/IPSC a try and from what I've read, the G35 is the way for a noob to go. You can reload for it, but you need to be careful about how many times you reload the brass. I'll probably start looking for a Dillon 650 to reload with. Let me know how the spring and guide rod set up works. I plan on leaving it bone stock until I get really comfy with it. I just took it out of the box, loaded it up and started doing some drills. Recoil seems ok to me but I'm a big guy, 6'3" 225lbs. 400rnds so far in two days!;z
