Hey. I have the urge to have a carbine chambered in the most versatile cartridge available. I don't want an ar-15 chambered in 10mm and I'm very leary of the mech tech contraption. Does anyone have experience with the mech tech or know of another carbine chambered in 10mm?
And don't even mention that POS Beretta thing, it's not 10mm anyway.
Kinda the collective dream around here. At one time there was a guy that re did a M-1 Carbine, but that is about it, and I don't think that guy is around anymore. If I win the lottery, I am going to put myself through gunsmithing school, and then I am going to design and build a 10mm carbine, maybe do something smart like build it around grease gun mags or something.
Did not H&K make a 10mm version of the MP5 a few years back? Or was that just a Tom Clancy fantasy? If they did make such a thing, was a civvy version ever released?
Yes, there is an H&K MP5 in 10mm. I would hate to think what it would cost, and I don't know that the H&K94 was ever chambered in 10mm

H&K MP510 is going to be your best/worst shot. Although it is still in some form of use at FBI, it was set to configurations that would make it a class III item if you were to purchase it. In other words, thousands and thousands of dollars. Then again, its post 86, so I dont think you can even have it if you wanted. Check out the pic though, this thing is the king salami of all 10's.

I have been having a ball with my mech-tech 10mm. I have about 15 hi-cap mags for my G20, and they all work in the mech tech.
I am still trying to figure out what powder will work the best out of the longer barrel to get the biggest boost in velocity. I might try some loads with Lil' Gun to see how that works.
It works in 357 Magnum, 41 Magnum, and 44 Magnum...why not the 40 S&W Magnum. The powder was designed to get the most out of the 410 shotgun, so it is certainly not out of it's realm with a 10mm.
If you dont hear from me for a while, and then I come back and type with lots of errors, you'll know the bandages are to blame.
BTW, I have heard nothing but good things about the Mech Tech CCU, except that they are kinda ugly. I haven't met many Glock users who let "ugly" get in their way though on the path to performance. LIV

can you get a rail hang grip for that mech tech thing? I need something vertical in the front and since the mag is inside the grip, I'm SOL.
I have even heard tell of a Thompson that was chambered in 10mm for the FBI. Haven't ever seen one though.

While you guys are all correct about the cost and rarity of Heckler & Koch manufactured MP5/10s . . . you are all forgetting about the new Vector/Coharie Arms CA5-10s and CA89-10s that are being delivered as I type this:
Pictures of Vector (Coharie Arms) MP5 in 10, 40, and 357 (http://www.vectorarms.com/guns/MP5%20closeups.htm)
Vector Pricing (http://www.vectorarms.com/other/cohaire%20pricing.htm)
They really are NOT that expensive, especially when you consider the support that Vector is known to give to those who buy it's products, and for the quality of this design (over, say, a Mech-Tech carbine).
I am on the waiting list, and close to getting mine shipped to my Class III dealer (I'm in for an SBR).

The Vector looks good for semi, but I'm not sure how it would hold up with a sear pack. MP5's have a reputation as maint hogs and I've heard the 10mm version didn't hold up well.
I have heard rumors of a Thompson conversion, but that is all, just rumors. These might be custom jobs. I have seen a 7.62 Tok conversion.
I think the best thing going for a 10mm carbine is the Uzi. BarrelXChange (http://files.uzitalk.com/reference/pages/caliberconversions.htm) makes a conversion, Vector has GG magwells so there is no magazine cost/availability issue. They are built like a tank and should have no durability issue. It's simpler than a 1921/28, don't know about the M1 series. I'm waffling hard right now betweem an Uzi and Thompson as my next NFA purchase.
Something that just hit me. If you don't have to have a semi, maybe a lever gun could be converted. That would be too cool. The smith by my house is big into cowboy action and does all kinds of work on lever guns, I'll ask him.
I've also heard of an M1 Carbine conversion. It might have been Teppo Jutsu (http://www.teppojutsu.com/), but I'm not sure. I fasirly sure he did one in Tok, so that might be what I'm thinking of.
