View Full Version : Kahr v Rohrbaugh - slide release
I am considering buying a Kahr PM9. It it similar to the Rohrbaugh R9, but has a slide release.
The Kahr's slide release is, IMHO, the only bad feature of an otherwise beautifully designed gun - it slicks out and has sharp edges. By comparison, the Rohrbaugh has no slide release.
My question is this - any thoughts on one v the other (I can get the Kahr for a good price, and Rohrbaughs are hard to come by, I'm told), and most importantly, would it be possible to really pare down or remove the slide release on the Kahr?
Thanks much for any info.

I bought a PM9 not long after they came out and have been carrying it almost daily since then. I agree that the slide release is sharp and I took a file to mine to "dehorn" it. That didn't do anything to make it pretty but it's definitely easier on the hand now. I've shot about 800 rounds through mine and have never had a problem with it. It's plenty accurate and the small size makes it a joy to conceal. I would recommend one to anybody looking for a small, quality made pistol.
Can the slide release be removed, or really pared down - or is it integral to the gun functioning properly?

Get the R9s.. but wait another year as there are 'teething problems'.
Mine is boxed and headed back to the factory for repairs. It fired ~twenty rnds before it become a $1000 paper weight.
I am certain the factory guys will set things right and I know there are about 1000 satisfied R9 owners out there, but--- mine's going away.:(

The slide stop is integral to the weapon and can not be permanently removed but it is a fairly chunky piece of steel and you can shave it down quite a bit. I'm not knocking the R9's at all, I've heard great things about them but have never had the opportunity to shoot or handle one. I do like my PM9 and carry it every day as opposed to my glock 22, 23, 27 or 36 simply due to it's size and concealability.
I agree entirely with needing something smaller for those 'stealth times'-- not only that, but the smaller gun simply is more pleasant to haul around. And, brother, that R9 is small!
Like you, I have the G27 & G36, and I carry the -36. I got the R9s because I had another small niner (Detonics Pocket Nine) and I got used to that small gun feel.
My dlr has a couple of Seacamps, but I want a nine as minimum caliber.
