Electrical problem

I have an electrical problem with my 98 GMC 1500. My lights flicker dim to bright. I mean all my lights. Head lights, dash lights, dome lights, etc. It is usually worse when it hasn't been running for a while but sometimes it does it sometimes not. It is getting worse. When it does it my amp gauge needle jumps back and forth. Could it be my voltage regulator or just a loose ground some where? I need help. I am not the most mechanically inclined so if it takes searching for it I will just take it to a shop.

Check cables at starter, if not, poss ground/battery.

It sounds like you may have a problem at the battery or alternator. Check your cables as James said, make sure they are tight with no corrosion on them. Side posts batteries have a tendency to break the post out of the battery, so give the cables a good pull and see if they come off. A loose ground is another possibility, as well as the headlamp switch.
