View Full Version : Oiling a Glock?
i dont know if this is the correct place to place this question but here goes... i took my glock to the range and shot her yesterday. when i got home, i cleaned it. (i clean all guns after EVERY trip to the range, just something i have always done.) it was the first time i cleaned her so i was using the manual.. it says specifically to not over oil or lube the glock pistol.. i did my best to limit my oil usage. i put a few drops on the spring at the back of the stock after the gun is broken down.. then i got to thinking that this might have been a little much. the reason i put 3 drops was because i couldnt get a solid drop on the spring correctly.. i was wondering, how much is too much oil on a glock...
on all other parts of the gun, i put the break free oil and cleaning solution in these places: (1 drop each)
-outside of the barrel
-inside of the barrel
-on each side of the action where the brown factory lube is..
-on the spring that is specified in the manual to be oiled.

1. NO oil in the barrel
2. One drop where trigger bar meets the connector
3. Outside of the barrel, barrel hood, barrel lug
4. Inside of the slide where the barrel hood rubs against the slide
5. Put one drop of oil on your finger and rub on each slide rail
so my barrel isnt gonna have problems if i put a drop inside the barrel is it?i was instructed to place one drop inside the barrel.. hmm, faulty advice i guess... thanks glockin.

The inside of a Glock barrel is not going to rust. Oil in the barrel can collect debris if you carry it constantly.

so i am ok if i just oiled the inside of the barrel once? ;g from now on i am just going to use that brush and get the dust out with that after shooting. what about oiling that spring on the back of the gun, inside the housing mechanism? a little oil is seeping through the cracks and i have to wipe it off a few times a day1:(

If you've got oil seeping out you've used too much. I think the "spring" you're referring to is where the trigger bar meets the connector. I use RemOil which has a small plastic tube that lets you put the oil in tight places. Remember to only put one small drop here. Also read the link that coverdog recommended. And don't be afraid to ask questions.
will do glockin... i am sorry about all the petty questions. i just want to keep this gun i have invested lots of money in (to me its alot of money, lol) in the best shape! is the pistol is anyway less condition since i might have put a dab bit too much oil on the connector sprinf glockin? hope not. you guys have been nice and i appreciate all the advice..
thanks to those who posted the links too. very helpful.
Hi,
You seem concerned about permament damage to your glock. You did not do anything that will permamently hurt the glock. Just wipe off he excess oil, and run a dry patch through the barrel before you shoot it next. As for the connector spring, it will not hurt as long as you removed the excess and don't make a habbit of over oiling it in the future.

thanks for the advice ryoko. will do.. i dont know if much gunk will "build up" or whatever... but if it does i am going to wipe it off. ;n ;7 ;9

On a side note, you're dealer lied to you. Take a look in your Glock manual. There are exactly six spots to drop some oil...
(2) Slide rails
(1) Connector/trigger bar engagement
(1) Around the barrel
(1) Inside the top of the slide where the barrel hood contacts it
(1) Inside the barrel lug where it contacts the locking block
