View Full Version : OK to leave USPc cocked for extended periods?
The manual for my USPc says not to leave the gun cocked when stored. Well I like to keep mine cocked and locked under the bed.. is this ok or will it weaken a component, spring?
I'm told the same way from an HK armorer, and Team HK shooter that leaving LEM precocked all the time isn't an ideal.
That's why I love my P7 so much, round in the chamber, no stress to any parts, totally safe, and ready when you are.

It's not good to leave any pistol cocked for extremely long time because you put the mainspring in compression and it will fatigue. How long before it fatigues depending on how well made the spring is.

I simply don't buy that. Springs weaken from repeated use, not from being compressed and left that way. Simply a myth that has spread far and wide thanks to the internet.
It's not impossible for second rate springs to fatigue under pressure. Anybody who has left cheap magazines loaded only to find the last few rounds rattle around inside instead of feeding knows that.
