View Full Version : G22 Problem

Friend of mine (an LEO) has a problem with his G22. He bought it used, and has no idea of its past history. He said at times it will fail to fire on the first round, and at other times it will fire 3 or 4 rounds and then fail to go into battery. When examined, the offending round has had the bullet pushed back in the case by the force of the slide. Also, he says that sometimes the trigger fails to return forward when released (this sounds like it was stored improperly, i.e., with the trigger in the full forward position in the original box and has damaged the trigger bar). He says that this has happended with two different kinds of factory ammo. Any ideas on what to look for?
I suggest he box it up and send it to Glock in Smyrna, with a letter stating that he is a L.e.O.. Glock will quickly inspect, rebuild and ship it back to him, no charge.
I have to agree with DannyR. I have sent in a bad G23 which was my carry gun and Glock had it back in my hands in 8 days. No charge for a new barrel and other upgrades.

Okay, I'll bite. What's wrong with storing it in the original box with the trigger forward? Don't we all carry them that way all the time?
The old Tupperware box was never meant to have the trigger in the forward position. It can damage the trigger bar pre Glock armorer’s instructors, out of the 4 recertification I have gone through this is always stressed. I believe it is in the manual that came with the gun. It can put undue force on the trigger and trigger bar. I do not understand this either, I am just repeating what is always mentioned by the Glock armorer’s trainers.
Personally I think it is more of a safety issue that if one were to place a loaded gun in the old style box it could discharge if dropped or the gun was pushed forward while in the box. I do not think it has anything to the problems with this gun nor do I believe it can damage the trigger or trigger bar.

Hmmmph. Learn something new every day. Fortunately only one of my Glocks came with the old style box, and that one never sees the box.

Odd list of problems. Some of them contradict each other in terms of likely causes which leads me to believe there's multiple issues at play. The most serious is the bullet setback, especially in a .40 cal. Seems rare for the pistol to be the cause of setback as it's usually more of an ammo production issue but whatever the case, I'd agree that he's holding a can of worms here that needs to be attended to by Glock Inc.

The issue has been solved. Did a complete detail strip and cleaning on the G22. Then test fired with a different magazine and ammo. Weapon failed to fully extract fired round from the chamber (only pulled it out about 1/2 way). The magazine spring then pushed the next round up, the fired case blocked it from coming up all the way to the chamber (obviously), and the slide going forward rammed the round into the feed ramp, compressing the bullet back into the case. Replaced extractor. Test fired. Problem solved....

That would still not explain why it fails to fire the first round as you stated at first. Did it do this with the trigger properly set?
