View Full Version : Have G34 for IDPA, get G35 for IPSC?
I don't know a lot about IPSC rules, but I do know that you get dinged in your down points for shooting minor as opposed to major. Is there a class in IPSC in which I could be competitive with my 9mm G34, or do I pretty much have to step up to the 40S&W G35 to be competitive?
Also, what division do most G35 shooters shoot in IPSC?

If you want to shoot Limited or L10 a 35 would be better as you can score Major.
You can however use your 34 in Production with no issues, everyone is scored minor. The modification rules are written differently than IDPA but in the end they are almost identical to SSP in what you can do to your gun. You can also use racier belts, holsters and pouches but they are not needed.

What CGR said. The 35 works well for both.
So it sounds like there's no real reason to buy a G35, unless I want to shoot Limited major and use high cap mags.
I was also thinking about a G21 so I could shoot CDP in IDPA, but I don't know how competitive that would be in IPSC...maybe good for major in Limited 10.

I still think a 35 is better for L10 because of some of the parts available but a 21 would do well in L10 also.

If you have a G34 that you shoot IDPA with, by all means, take it to USPSA and shoot it in Production division.
Grab a couple more mags (I like to have 5 on me).
You are set. :)

What Flex said. If you are looking for an excuse to buy another gun, the 35 can do it all.
-add a magwell & mag extensions & its a USPSA Limited gun (major scoring ammo & all).
-load 10 rounds only: viola! L-10 gun
-lighten the spring & download .40 & the 35 will kick less than the 9mm 34 for Production division.
All this & you can still use it in SSP, ESP and GSSF's competition class.

I am a glock shooter, I would think a 1911 .45 would be a better bet if you are going to get a .45 of CDP and USPSA.
