View Full Version : whats better???
what is a better duty round....a .357 sig or a .40 s&w both used in glocks...model 31 or 22 respectively.....lets say bullet weight is a non-factor with federal hydra-shoks being the round you will use.what is the better of the two for duty carry/use/defense?
There is no Federal hydra-shok round in .357 sig. Their sig round is listed as a Premium JHP - but not a hydra-shok.

Duty round?
Used Gold Dot.
Proven through vehicle glass/doors.
Look at Double Tap brand 125 gr. GD load.
Extra power.

No offense, but Hydra-shoks are old technology. Federal now puts out HST as is best JHP's. Golddots and RangerT are also great.
Both calibers will do all that a handgun bullet can do. I feel that .357Sig recoils less, is more accurate, and allows quicker follow-up shots.
From what I have read on this site, and elsewhere- the sig does a better job of penetrating both metal and glass...so if it going to be a duty round- this would be important.
Also have heard that DoubleTap is introducing their 147 gr. load in the .357 sig this week- but have not seen any tests yet for penetration or metal / glass.
Gold Dots all the way around ! They perform great in pro. tests, and perform great in my own wet magazine tests. I also own a G32, so I guess you know my vote on the .40 vs .357 thing. I do agree with a previous statement. The .357 in my 32 seems to not have the "sting", that a friend's .40 does in his 23.

I dunno.
However, I am sure the 357 is more dependable at feeding, is more accurate, and is fully supported at battery.

IMO you cant ignore bullet weight
bullet weight (and velocity) is the primary difference between the two
357 sig does lighter bullets
40 sw does heavier bullets
use whichever one floats your boat
