A local funshop of good repute has had a used P7M8 hunkering in a display case for a few months now. I think it is selling for $610 - one mag and no box. I handled it a few weeks ago and it seemed to be in pretty good condition (I already have 19 firearms so I know what to look for usually). What should I look for to see if there is something wrong? Are there serial number ranges that were a problem?
The finish is worn around the slide - it looks like holster wear. I could not get any info on how it got there, just that some guy traded it in. Who knows if that is the truth.
I am not worried about finish so much as I want to shoot and carry it, not look at it. I may spring for a Robar refinish since I have seen the fine results on this forum many a time. How much would that run?
I guess I am pretty set on buying it. It will be purchased with cash squirreled away for the occasional odd purchase. I would say that a P7M8 is an odd purchase.
If only it were a P7M7 for $610 . . .
Is it a PSP? (Heel Mag Release) Is it a Refurb? (Grind Mark on right side of slide) - I picked up a Re-Rurb for 650 a few months ago and felt that it was a good deal. - Refurbs and PSP tend to sale for less than the standard M8. Remember a spare mage will run close to 50 bucks.
NP3 - $250 plus shipping Plus Prep fee to mask barrel on P7
They do run specials normally twice a year and give a 20% discount.
I have had 2 P7 with NP3 - Very happy with.

Witht he P7, it's all in the gas piston...the rings should be nice and sharp...also, it shouldn't rattle in the gun as this another sign it is worn down a bit, but not as serious as very dull rings...

If you think it's in good condition, I'd say:
Buy it!
Buy it!
Buy it!
C'mon everybody!
Buy it!
Buy it!
Buy it!

One of the best gun purchase I've ever made! I carry it everyday, it's so perfect for that!
I can almost get two compare to the price I paid for new. Get it while you can.
If it's a P7M8 I'd say go and get it. I have a M8 & a M13 both shoot great. Mag prices are high $50 as prev stated. I don't keep track but my friends M8 has well over 20k w/o any failures.

You should buy mine in the firearms section. ;)
1. Squeeze cocking. The gun goes from perfectly safe to perfectly deadly in a split second. If you drop it you may have a heart attack because it might get scratched but you can rest assured it won't go off. This gun is incredibly fast.
2. Trigger pull. Thanks to the squeeze cocking system the gun is safely equipped with an excellent single action trigger pull.
3. Compact. Although it has full-size controls (no pinky hang), the gun is sized like a compact approaching a subcompact. It is much thinner than almost any handgun.(1.1-1.2 inches).
4. Full-size barrel. Despite this gun's compact size it has a full 4-inch barrel.
5. Fixed-barrel. This gun lacks the tilting barrel assembly of most other full-sized guns. This lends the gun exceptional accuracy.
6. Low recoil. This is debatable. I have always felt that this has the least recoil of any 9mm. Some disagree, most don't. This is likely result of the guns low bore/axis and gas system (although some say the gas system should have no effect).
7. Tough! This gun is CNC milled from a solid steel forging.
8. Excellent sight radius. Although the gun is short, HK maximized the sight radius by pushing the sights as far apart as practically possible.
9. Oddball manual of arms confuses bad guys and know it all buddies. There are many accounts of cops loosing their P7's to bad guys who were, in turn, unable to figure out the squeeze cocker.
10. Chamber fluting allows the gun to function even if the extractor is broken.
11. Easily childproofed. The P7's striker can be removed without tools (and without any other disassembly of the gun). The striker can be re-inserted into the gun in roughly 1 second.
12. Ambidextrous. With the exception of the slide catch and take down buttons, every model of the P7 is completely ambidextrous.
13. Ultra-fast magazine release. This has to be experienced to be understood. Rambo types complained about the PSP’s lack of rapid magazine release. HK, Germans that they are, decided to give them what they wanted—a magazine that ejects so fast and powerfully that they could be used as back-up projectiles in an emergency.
14. Ultra fast slide release. Simply squeeze the handle and the slide will be released.
15. 110 degree grip angle gives the gun natural pointability. 110 degree grip angle makes the gun point just like you finger.
16. Low profile slide. The P7’s low profile slide means that there is very little recoiling mass relative to the frame. This, along with the above mentioned 110-degree grip angle makes reacquiring targets a breeze with the P7.

Don't walk, run. Run and buy that piece. You won't regret it. IMO the P7M8 is one of the last of those guns built upon the old principle of "best gun". By this is meant the old gun makers used the best craftsmanship, material and engineering to produce their best products. Please don't take me wrong the "newer" plastic guns are great and work well and I've got a safefull, but there is something about the "old" way of making things.
With the P7M8 you will get a good sense of what I'm talking about. Welcome to the cult.

A used P7 PSP probably came from Germany, where officers don't practice much -- I'd buy it. A used P7 M8 may have come from the New Jersey State Police -- which used them for twelve years and only switched because so many of their guns had worn out. I'd be more cautious buying a used P7 M8.
The market has some very clean PSPs from the German police imported by PW Arms in Redmond, WA in the low $600 range. No noticeable wear - finish is pristine too. Used baby - buy it.
Have a:
P7 - exposed heel - CCW - hardchromed with XS big dot tritum sights
PSP - flush heel
P7M13 - ambidexterous side mag release
Looking for a P7M10 now to round out the collection.
Anytime you can grab one in the $600 range with a little holster wear - do it- can always have it hardchromed, nickeled, blued, whatever.
Just looked and $975 is the going rate for a P7 even used.
Any shop selling them much lower is just turning cash for the consignment seller.
Snap them up.
The few NIB ones still left after production stopped are going for $1300 plus.
So you are getting half price.
Just picked up a LNIB P7M8. I traded an Armalite AR for it. The P7 was one of those items that I've always wanted but never got around to buying. I figured since they are no longer made I should get it now before it gets really impossible to find a nice one at a decent price. Anyway I ran a box of 115 grain FMJ through it and I'd have to say that it is quite possibly the most accurate 9 that I've have.
The only fault that I found was that it gets extrmemly hot to hold after just a few mags through it, and this is one of the ones with the heat shield on it. Overall I am very happy with it. I can always get another AR but I might not have the opportunity to a nice P7 like this one.

Congrats.

Got the urge the last couple weeks to get a P7M8 and called a out of the way gun store this morning to see if they might have any. Turns out he said he thought he knew someone that had one available and he gave me his contact info. I discovered it's a 1991 model that has never been fired other than at the factory. It has the original box, warrantee registration, scraper tool, brush, manual, and even the original target showing that it was fired 5 times back in 1991.
For some reason their are 4 original mags with the gun which I wasn't complaining about. I'm guessing the gun has never been cleaned but it has no rust that I can see, and absolutely no bluing wear anywhere.
Best of all the price was a even 8 bills! Now then, I'll take it apart and clean and lube it, and don't think there is anything that needs special attention after sitting all these years.
Needing a quality holster for it, but other than that I think it's good to go! I'll be blasting with it real soon!
