I didn't even know this part of GT existed. Anyway, a song I just wrote, with a folk sound to it.
First time I've songs anywhere but the OAF, so be gentle.
All Around Us
By John Byer
Concrete all around us
the clay of modern man
its spreading like a virus
infecting unadulterated land
Asphalt all around us
roads, synaptic pathways of the land
in them our lives have become entangled
they're choking us like quicksand
We frantically grasp for more
trying to capture all we can catch
in the end our hands are left empty
theres so much more to life than that
Money all around us
society's determinant of worth
a self-perpetuated slavery
we're born captives at our birth
Power all around us
Dogma of control or be controlled
Pointless goals of self-inflation
True freedom has been compromised
We frantically grasp for more
trying to capture all we can catch
in the end our hands are left empty
there’s so much more to life than that
