View Full Version : Flash Hider for Clinton era rifle
I have a post ban AR I want to mount a flash hider. What the best one that can be installed without threading the barrel.

I highly recommend threading the barrel if you really want a flash hider.

+1 on that. ADCO de-banned my AR last October, and did a superb job.
Threading the barrel is the only way to go. ADCO did great work on one of my ARs after the sunset.

Steve7,
I hope you have the idea now that threading the barrel is the only way to go. ;)
I don't know where "Parts Unknown" is, but if you're near Danville, Illinois (where I am) then come on over and I'll thread it for you for free. ^c
If that's too long of a drive, then I'll also recommend Adco. I've never used them, but have always heard positive comments about them (and never a negative).

Kestrou,
Thanks for the offer. I am in Memphis TN. I was thinking if I had the appropriate die I could thread the barrel for the flashhidder. I haven’t miked the barrel to see how the diameter matches up I might also need to turn it on lathe if it is to big.

Steve7,
Sorry you're so far away, but I'll bet you a shiny silver dollar that you do have to turn it down on a lathe as I've never seen an AR barrel that you could just hit with a die that matches the thread of a flashhider (1/2" x 28 and available from here: http://dynasystems-ltd.com/threadingkits.htm)
So unless you've got a lathe in your garage (which I do, Sterling - nyah, nyah nyah! ;f ) then send it to Adco - they'll thread it without even removing the barrel from the upper receiver.
