View Full Version : AR15 rail suggestions
Couple of questions about AR rails. The bellow link is what I am looking at I am going to be puting them on a Colt LEO 6721. First question I like the first set up for 129.00 the ones that go on the colt Carbine YES OR NO. Second I have heard good things about the porduct and looking for some feed back from you all or other suggestions on rails around the same price 100-200 dollars. Thanks for the help

Not a bad price, but I'd go KAC first. Daniel Defense or LaRue would tie for a close second.

I've never used the MI rails but I have not heard any negatives about them other than they are very tight making installation somewhat difficult. My brother has a set on his M4gery and likes them a lot. I am also looking at getting a set for my midlength.

I highly recommend the Midwest Industries rails. Highest quality, rail level with the top rail on the upper, very good price, and BravoCo is top notch also.

I will 2nd the fact that BCUSA is, indeed, one of the best online retailers I have ever dealt with. I called the other day to order a LMT upper and the fella was just as friendly as could be. You sure as hell don't find that in this business anymore.

I got my rails when Bravo Co ran a special on the ar15 site. I am very pleased with mine.

You forgot the rest of your post "equals junk".
Any company that would make something like this below, I would never purchase anything from:

Bwahahahaha! ;z
I left out all my rants and raves about foregrip 'tinny rails ;)
Why waste money, if you really need it for all your socom events, the gov't will get you one ;)
USMCsilver U have a link where I can find them
Also the MI#17 (2 Piece Tactical Handguards) For CARBINE is what I should go with for my weapon correct

Anything that USMC reco's, grab yer ankles and/or checkbook.
He's a self-professed gear-snob. Best of the best. Heck, his AR case has a freakin Polo logo on it. (giggle-chuckle)
Everything he'll reco is GREAT, but sometimes you gotta weigh price in the picture. I can afford the stuff that he likes, but I don't always buy it only b/c I can't justify the cost to myself.
That LMT stuff is great. As is the KAC. YHM is fine for 99% of us. Yeah, they make some really silly stuff, but I don't ban Dow Chem b/c some chic gets 48 DDDD fake boobs made by them. ;)
I think the best deal going is the MI Free float rail system. $163 for a quad rail FF handguard can't be beat.
I've had the YHM 2-piece tactical handguards (non-FF), and they work pretty well too. I paid around $100.

Find what? A KAC, LaRue, or Daniel?
FWIW, I saw a KAC RAS II for sale w/ KAC panels, and VFG that was in excellent condition over at ARF.com for $260 shipped either yesterday or the day before. I about bought it for a "back-up" just to try to justify it... ;f

If I had the constitution, I'd get the DD carbine length ultra-light one. I think it's $300 or so. I wanna say it's 8oz. EIGHT OUNCES!!!!!
This is definitely one of those times a reco to hit the Equipment Exchange at ar15.com is necessary. You can check out and compare real prices on items.
I would get the KAC RAS instead for the simple fact that they have the clamp that attaches to the bbl nut.
I have a KAC RASII and I love it.

My God that is funny. ;z except for the fact that your FH on your 14.5" bbl was probably made by them ;f

I do have the carbine length two piece Midwest Industries rail. It's top notch and a bit nicer than the YHM from what I hear.

Damn you!
Okay, it is made by them. LEAVE ME ALONE! ;)
The way I look at it is this: when you don't have any other choice when you want a new Phantom, well, sometimes you're stuck going with something that would otherwise be avoided like the plague. However, since it is pretty much non-functioning, well, I'll trust it even though it is YHM. ;e
LaRue--strongest
KAC--Good kit.
Daniel defense-lightest and thinnest but side rails are slightly out of spec.
I think one of the biggest contenders has been left out. The Troy MRF-C was my choice and I am 100% satisfied. The fit and finish is top notch, and installation is fairly easy (although Grant at G&R Tactical installed mine for me when I bought my LMT upper)
They are on sale at a lot of places for $225 shipped. I know thats outside the $200 upper limit, but you need to remember that the Troys come with 3 tango down rail panels, so thats about a $35-$40 value right there.

Get the free float type if yo're going to replace your original handguard. Once your handguard isn't touching the barrel at all you can hang all the crap you want off your gun and your zero won't shift.
(I have an ARMS 50M on my AR.)

larue or Daniel Defense...by far the best.

I plan to get a LaRue 7" tube the next time I'm ready to sink more money into my AR. The only drawback to this for me is that I lack the tools. So I'll either have to invest in an armorer's wrench and an action block that I may or may not use again... or take it to gunsmith. They will both cost about the same, so I'll probably go the tools route.
