My wife's oven isn't even an option for me, because it's too small.
So I had to figure out a way to cook the cosmolene out of my SKS stock.
I took it out on the picnic table and put the heat gun on it. Same as another method I read, wipe it down every 15 minutes. It comes out nicely, and I can concentrate the heat wherever it's needed most.
I also used it to melt it out of the metal parts so it won't take as much brake parts cleaner to get it all out.

I can't use the oven either and I've been trying to find a way. This might work out perfect!
Also I saw your signature and I just wanted to say that you're not alone in that land - way to go Prop #2!!!

Just don't put it too close. It will blacken the wood if it's too close (ask me how I know).
The "retarded" part of my sig is in response to some guy who said that Texas is Retarded for passing such a law. It was in GNG the other day.
the oven method works, i have found it too easy to damage the wood with the heat gun though.
i like using steam on the metal, i use a handheld steamer i got at home depot for that. it gets in all the cracks i cant reach, like under sight mounts, etc, and powers off the dried cosmo well too. the heat also causes the water to evaporate fairly quickly. it leaves the metal warm and dry.
another alternative to the oven is to take the stock, wrap it in paper towels w/masking tape (just enough to make the towels hold on). put it in a black trash bag and leave it in your car for about a week. repeat as necessary. i live in florida, so that method works well for me.

I had two mausers that had that problem real bad, One was my friends and the other was my own, In the summer I just put the tailgate down on my truck (black liner) and set the stocks on that, Now that the wood stove is fired up I have a 200-900 heat surface I can work with although that stuff does get smokey

You used the exact same method I did, right down to the brand of heat gun!
I stuck a thermometer in the far end and kept the temp to 200 degrees or less.
