I'm having a horrible time deciding what to do when I finally sell my P226. Here are the options:
A - Use the money to buy a G21 which will eventually be a G20L.
B - Buy a lower and some other stuff to start building my first black rifle.
C - Buy a G34.
For justification, I'm only looking at the G34 b/c if I ever take a contract to Iraq, I'll just take all the good stuff off it to put on the G17 that I'll probably get issued out there.
What do you guys think?

1. If your P226 is chambered for 9mm, sell it and buy a P229 chambered for 40sw.
2. Buy a G20.
That's what I think. :)
All good choices, but I believe everyone should own at least 1 10mm!
I vote G20 ;f

No disrespect intended, but if you knew what most of us know, there would be no question which one to buy. The G20 without a doubt. In my opinion don't go for a compensated version. You will lose a tad bit of power.
I want all I can get. Like Kirk on Star-Trek "Give me all the power you can muster MISTER!" And Scotty says "I'm given her all she's got Captain; if I push her any harder, the whole things gonna blow!!!"
Yeah, I've watched too much Star-Trek in my youger days. Beam me up Scotty!

I have decided never to buy a Glock with the normal frame (9mm, 40, 357). The first I ever shot long ago was a 40, and I remember feeling a bite in the space between my thumb and forefinger. Today, I confirmed that when I shot my friend's G31. The grip is contoured differently as I noticed after my inpection. I will forever be doomed to the G20, 21, 29 and 30. I am convinced that my G29 is the best handgun ever.
Still remains the dilemna of G21 or AR-15. Which can wait till tax return season is the real question.
(Oh and I never meant to say G20C, rather G20L. I despise the compensated models for the deafening report blasted up towards my face and the blackening of expensive front sights.)

Colorado, I find myself following you around trying to help spread the word of the G20L conversion like Santa's little helper.... here's another pic for anyone interested:

What is that? A G21 with a long slide and a 10mm bull barrel? I've had some loot burning a hole in my pocket. I was leaning towards another 1911, but a 10mm would be nice. How much would doing all that run?

No doubt! Once you go 10mm you never go back. The G20 is the best place to start IMO. Other platforms are nice range guns, safe queens, etc... But the G20 is a mans gun and a genuine workaholic :) Takes the 10mm full power or weak ones and then begs you to go buy more ammo.

the only thing that would stop me from taking my ten back to iraq, or over to afghanistan next year would be ammunition concerns. Coordination to have ammo ready can take the military upwards of 6 months, if at all.
But you are all right, the 10mil slinging some beartooth into a terrorist is a happy day

In a military or military type situation, wouldn't the side arm barely be used in favor of the battle rifle? This is not a rhetorical question. I'm really curious how much a side arm actually gets used.
And as far as ammo replenishment goes, is .40sw easier to get than 10mm in your situation? If you choose a G20, then there is always the option to shoot 40sw out of the G20 barrel or bring an extra conversion barrel.
Given the choice of having a gun with ammo or one with no ammo I'd always go with the loaded one. Duh. And no one can argue that 9mm is probably the easiest centerfire pistol caliber available in any country, especially a US Military occupied one.
But given the choice to have a functional 10mm or a 9mm at my side... it's no choice at all. Someone else can have the pop-gun. I'll take my 10mm ;f

The only time you should be using your sidearm is in a very dire situation, or very close quarters combat. Or when occupying a vehicle, which more often than not, is the case. In regards to .40SW, it would probably be easier to get out there, I never submitted a request for .40. What I actually use now is H&K's USP Tactical with an AWC Nexus II suppressor. It is easy for me to get .45ACP out there, and reliability is high with the issue 230gr FMJ's. It is used moreso as a tool when operating in sniper hides, when small animals such as curious dogs, which there are many of out there, need dispatched. Without the loud bang which could end a mission. .45 is the only round I can trust to be extremely quiet due to its sluggishly fat muzzle velocity. Other than that, I'll take the G20 anyday. I would just be cheating myself to use anything less.

That is my only concern regarding the 10mm. I love my G29 as a CCW, but I will never be able to silence it. If I buy a G21, I'll be able to shoot the readily available .45 ACP, and when tax season comes around, I'll be able to get that G20L slide and throw it on there and have my dream gun. I just like that option b/c it allows me the opportunity to use the .45 ACP in the event that I can't find any 10mm anywhere and my shipment from DT is late.
Oh by the way, I DO know what most of you know, the 10mm is what you carry if you're serious about fire power, but I'm also serious about shooting at least 2-3 times a week, and the 10mm makes it hard.
I guess I could get the .40 barrel for it...;z ;z ;z ;z
Sounds like you should get a G21/G20 frame, the G21L longslide and 6" .45 barrel, and then a 6" 10mm->45 barrel.
Then you have both options in one frame/slide.

My plan is this:
G21
G20L slide w/ 10mm, .40, and 9x25 barrels.
Is there any reason why that won't work?
Should work fine if they are making G20L slides too (i.e., breachface for 10mm).
But you won't be able to use .45 barrels with that slide.
