Just picked up my new G19C tonight and I am a happy man. It's my first Glock and I decided to pay $30 more to get the compensated model so I could see what that was like (and still have the option to put in a normal barrel if desired).

I bought it from topglock.com and had a good experience with them. It was my first time having a firearm transferred through a transfer dealer, so of course I had a bunch of questions, which Jeff and Mike at topglock were helpful with. Purchased it last Tuesday, it shipped last Friday, and it arrived at my transfer dealer this Monday.

So why did I not pick it up till today? Well, first I assumed it was shipping regular ground, so I figured 5 business days. I also assumed that the transfer dealer would call me when it arrived. Topglock had put my name and phone number on the outside of the envelope with the receipt in it that they had shipped along with the firearm so that the transfer dealer could call me when it came in. After calling topglock today to check on the estimated arrival date, they told me it had been delivered on Monday. So, I called up the transfer dealer to see why the hee-haw they hadn't called me up and the guy said that they are very busy there and usually don't call people when guns come in because people just use the tracking number to see when it comes in. I wasn't too happy about that, but it was my first time doing a tranfer purchase and the people at the transfer dealer were nice once I got there. And of course I was like a kid at Christmas when I opened the box. ;f

(And being paranoid like I am, I carefully inspected my new toy to make sure no one had been "playing" with it since it had been sitting there since Monday. Thankfully, it was fine and there was no visual or olfactory evidence of being used.)

Like I said, it's my first Glock, and I a very pleased with the quality. My current carry piece, which I have carried for about 6 months since I got my permit, has been a Kel-Tec P11. Obviously the Glock is on another level of quality, but to its credit, the Kel-Tec has been very reliable, and I have enjoyed polishing up the internals and shooting it at the range. I plan to eventually start carrying the G19C once I break it in and decide whether or not to keep the comped barrel on it (yes, I have already read all the posts with mixed opinions about blinding and burning yourself with a comped carry gun and have decided to test it our for myself).

The gun fits my hand well and seems to point well. Can't wait to take it to the range this weekend. Already installed a grip plug and bought an inexpensive nylon holster from Don Hume to start out with. And I got my member number from ambassador.

Nice choice. I have been carying a G19c daily for about 3 years now. I have the non ported barrel, but never use it. The flash is really no brighter...that myth is a bunch of crap. You will love that gun. Best of the best IMHO. Check out the Rocket Man Custom Lowrider IWB. Great holster that has worked great for me.

I strongly caution against the use of a handgun with a ported barrel for combat (I.E. self defense) use. If you have to fire the pistol at an awkward angle, close to your body, or in a retention hold as can happen when struggling with someone or when the threat is at close range, you can be severely injured by the super heated gasses escaping at high speed from the ports.

This, not the flash, is the primary reason not use C model Glocks for concealed carry.

Nice Pistol though. :)

Cool. How does that belt clamp on the RM Lowrider IWB work? Their website doesn't really show the details well. Speaking of holsters, that Don Hume NH715 that I got has been working out well. It's a very nice holster, especially for the $20 I paid for it. My only complaint is that the gun rides a tad low, such that the finger groove closest to the trigger guard is not included in the draw grip because it's riding right at the top of my pantline. Draw speed still seems fine - I tested that out at the range this past weekend. ;f

I'd be curious to see how hot and fast the gasses are coming out of the ports and how quickly that heat and velocity dissipates the farther you get from the ports. Probably hard to measure since it's such a quick, transient event. I'd be curious to see what it does to a piece of paper suspended at different distances above the ports - maybe I'll test this out next time I go to the range.

Will do.

I forgot to try the paper test this weekend at the range. I'll try to remember next time I go.

Learning to live with a ported glock to me has been no different than learning to avoid the flash from the cylinder gap of the revolver. It is really not as bad as the arm chair commandos would have you believe.

grats on the g19c, i got mine a couple months ago and absolutely love it. After doing research and talking on the forum, i almost didnt get a C, due to heresay about the flash being blinding and the risk of burn. Sure you might take a slight risk of being burned if you shoot like an idiot or right in front of your face, but in reality for normal plinking you should be fine, and "IF" you come to a situation where you gotta shoot near your body, I seriously doubt you will be worried about a burn over your life.

These pistols shoot great, just wear ear protection as mine is annoying loud.

I have kept mine stock besides the night sights ;)

The C takes a little more cleaning, but well worth it imho

I read an interesting article in the November 23, 2005 issue of Concealed Carry magazine that brings out the facts about porting or not. I like mine and train to use it correctly as I would with any firearm.

Any chance you could post a link to this article or tell us some of the highlights?
