That's direct from the Operating Officer of the CMP who moderates the CMP forum. Get your order in quick. He said recently there was a 6 month supply at the present rate of sale. The problem is that many have seen that info. and orders are going in fast so the 6 month supply will a a lot less. See the postings by "omichaels":

Thanks for the heads-up. I ordered two 1903A3s a year and a half ago. At that time, it seemed like no one wanted them. Everyone was ordering 1903s and Garands, of course.

If you had to choose between the M1903 or the M1903A3, which would you pick, and why?

I would have preferred a 1903 more for historical interest but at the time I ordered, I saw more reports of those receiving A3s in very good condition. That's not to say some are getting some nice 1903s.

There are supposed to be more 03's than A3's left. My father just ordered his A3 and he's getting me a M1 Garand while I get him an FAL.:) The A3's are supposed to be in better overall shape(they're newer) and have better sights. Just got a Finnish 1942 Sako M39 today for a great price!

Currently in the armory(just milsurps)
1. 3 Swiss K31's(awesome rifles)
2. finn M39 (just in)
3. Russian M44 (good cheap boom-boom gun)
4. 4-5, hell if I know how many 8mm Turkish mausers, 1893's 1903's, 1938's( cheap,cheap to feed, fun to own)
5. CZ52 pistol(only gun I've ever bought that constantly jams and won't feed!)
6. M1 Garand( On it's way and I can't wait!)

Lot's more on the wishlist, my old man has everything I have and then many more.

i chose the 03 cause of the extra history, plus it was made during the inter war years, not sure that affects quality, but i know with foreign countries, there seems to be higher quality stuff during non war production. i guess under the stresses of war, the emphasis is quantity over quality.

The 1903A3 has a longer sight radius, and the rear sight is easier on the eyes than the 1903. 1903A3s from the CMP are usually going to be in better shape than 1903s. Particularly with respect to barrel condition.

That said, the 1903 has a high collector interest. You could end up with a real beaut.

If you can, get both!

On another board they are saying that Orin told them that they are down to 500 A3's and that at the rate they are going they will be gone in a month! Better sell that little red-headed step child and get one soon! Gorelick, I know how your into AR's, one reason being their accuracy, you've got to get you one K31 before they get expensive, you'll love it. :)

My hangup with them is the cost of the ammo, it's pretty high isn't it?

The CMP M2 ball (de-linked machine gun ammo) is $.24/round. You have to get 960 rounds, and it's $192 + $38 S&H. Four ammo cans of 12 repackaged 20-round boxes each. It's very good ammo, and it won't damage your Garands. (Do not shoot commercial ammo in the Garand.) And it'll feed your 1903s and A3s nicely. Non-corrosive.

I'm working on my 3rd case. ;)

Gorelicks, Aimsurplus has the 60rd bricks of GP11 for $21.00 right now. Yea it ain't .05cent a round 8mm cheap but the swiss ammo is match grade, good stuff. Also Wolf and Prvi Partizan have the brass-cased boxer primed ammo now for about the same price as the Gp11. If you reload it gets cheaper in a hurry because you can use .308 bullets and I've been told you can resize .284 Remington brass to Swiss ammo specs. These guns are worth investing in!

I have had the Persian for a few years now and just can't bring myself to shoot it. It is in mint condition, outside of a few dings in the stock from Samco's pallets. I still have the original hang tag on it.

Based on th weight of it I would imagine it is a sweet shooter.
