I think it's a matter of personal preference.
I'm going to try a Tango-Down - I like that it doesn't have finger grooves.
At around $30 it's relatively easy to try them and see which you like after shooting with it (which, of course, is the real test).

My SIG Sauer 228 was simply "unshootable" until I put soft Hogue rubber grips on it!
I´ll try Hogue ( green ) ones on my coming RRA.

tango down seems to suite me
I have both and they work well. At least I think the tan one is an Ergo grip. I can't remember ;g

I have an Ergo overmold on one of my carbines. It sure is an improvement over the stock handgrip. I plan to replace the handgrips on my other AR's with Ergo's.

Seems like Hogue is a bit more popular to me. My brothers and all my friends like the Hogue, but I personally like the Ergo better.
The Hogue is the cheapest too! $14.99 at CDNNINVESTMENTS.

The Hogue grip is cheap (price wise) looks good and feels awesome. I haven't tried any of the other aftermarket grips on the market, mainly because they are all rather ugly.

I just bought a ergo for $30 I don't have a lower yet to put it on to try it but so far its better then the A2. not to stray to bad form the orginal post but is $30 a good price?
I paid $21 from Brownells for the Ergo overmold. It comes in a right hand and ambidexterous model. There are three models; the standard (don't do it), the overmold (that is the one) and the high end ($54.00) one that I have never seen. The advertisers on this board probably offer all of the handgrips it at a good price.
Hogue. Like it. Feels good in the hand.

I haven't tried the Hogue, but I love the Ergo grips. I hated the A2 grips. The Ergo feels perfect for my hand, and no slippage whatsoever.
I have a bag of old grips in my closet:
A2: Just didn't feel right.
Hogue: Couldn't stand the rubber or the shape .
Tango Down: Nice, but to thin.
Ergo: Great, but still a little thin.
MIAD: With the finger groove and medium backstrap, it's perfect.
