View Full Version : P99 Drop in trigger?
I have a very early Walther P99 imported by interarms. It was before there were different trigger setups, so I’d call it an AS before the term was ever used. These early ones did not have as much of a hook on the end of the trigger. My finger has often dragged across the bottom of the trigger guard and hit the hump on it blowing my shot by a bit. I see that my newer 40 and 99c has a much more hooked trigger that prevents this and I shoot them more accurately. I think I can get a new trigger out of Germany.
Questions:
1. Do I just need trigger or are other parts involved?
2. Is it a straight drop in job?
3. If anyone can answer the first two can you tell me how to get the trigger out or is there complete breakdown instructions on the net somewhere.
Thanks Experts,

I have one of the early Shot Show Interarms P99. I am not a so-called expert but, I do experience the finger drag you described. I know of NO aftermarket trigger accessories. You might try Earl's Repair of Massachuetts, a Walther importer OR, check your replacement grip size and finger placement on the trigger. I bet a larger grip might solve your problem. Regards;)
Thanks, I have played with the straps and I do it with all of them, likey somewhat my faulty finger placement at times but after shooting my newer ones with a more hooked trigger I don't do it so it will help even if it is a badly placed finger. I did call Earl, $150.00 for the job. I can easily strip all parts out of a Glock and if a Walther is as easy and I can find out how to do it I think I can get the part(s). Can't seem to find a thing on the net about breaking down the lower. I may call S&W and see how much they would charge.
Thanks Again.

I replaced my trigger, but also found I needed the firing mechanism.
I believe the parts were about $100 or more.
You also have to modify the grip a little to accomidate the new trigger.
If you lived near me I could help you out. But you might be better off sending it to Smith?
I called Smith and they said they do not have the jig to modify the frame. Where did you get the parts? Thanks

I got my parts from Walther America. If you have a very small flat file, it is easy to modify the frame. I had a set of small files from Snap-on tools that worked perfectly.
I shall give them a call. What part of the firing mechanism do I need. I hate to bother you but in the book that came with it do you have the part number from the exploded view so I can explain I want the newer style. Thanks.

trigger assy = 2624273
fire control assy = 2624397
One other part that may need tweeking is the trigger bar guide.
There are about 10 different sizes.
A new on will come with the fire contol assy.
But it will probably be a different size than whats in your gun.
you can measure them with an electronic micrometer. Earls stocks all sizes.
You may be fine with the sizes you have. (Check the firing pin protrusion from the slide cover plate just before it releases)
Thats how you will figure the right size trigger bar guide.
Good luck! let me know if you need any help.
I should have taken pictures throughout the whole process.
Its not too bad.
Thanks, I'm on it. You are one of the good ones.

If you need any dissasembly help, shoot me an e-mail.
Will do, Thanks, I expect I will need help getting the trigger out as I can't find any instruction on the net. I can break a Glock down to all removable parts so I think I have the skills, just don't want to break anything.
Thanks Buddy,
