I just shot my AR for the first time, and I am trying to clean it. The problem is I cant get the first pin off! It just wont come out. It there anything that I am missing here?
Also, is there an online guide on disassembling these guns? The manual that came with it isnt that clear.
Also, the magazine that it came with seems to be made of aluminum, or some other soft, weak metal. It this ok? Also, is it OK to load 30 rounds at a time, or should I download? Is this even a problem anymore?
Thanks!

The pin closest to the rear of the weapon is not designed to come out - or is there a reason to take it out for normal maintenance.

the take down pins tend to be tight as hell on a new gun. Gently tap them out, i used a beater allen wrench for this.
try this for a guide to take your rifle apart

aluminum mags are fine, dont worry about it :) Load it to 30 rounds and dont worry about it either ;)

I use gunsmith punches and hammer to tap the pin out. That way there is no risk of damage to the AR.
You should have learned how to do it when you cleaned the rifle prior to shooting it for the first time...what's that you didn't clean it?
The pin is not suppsed to come all the way out when just fieldstripping the rifle. Push it far enough to take her down, thats it.
Make sure the bolt carrier assembly is forward. Push the rear take down pin from left to right, it will stop on the right side before it is all the way out as there is a small detent that keeps it from coming out all the way. Next let the upper receiver assembly hinge upward, slowly. You will now be able to see the trigger assembly clearly and be able to look at the underside of the bolt carrier assembly that is inside the upper receiver assembly. Next carefully start the charging handle to the rear about 3/4 the way, enough so you can pull out the bolt carrier assembly. You may now clean, as this is a very simple field strip.
If you wish to really know how to detail strip and maintain the gun then please seek out instruction. We just did two armoring courses in your back yard, Tennessee, at Tactical Response (http://www.tacticalresponse.com ) and should be back doing a couple more sometime in early 2006.
