View Full Version : Potential problems with hard chrome?
I noticed that Ed Brown's lifetime warranty on their HardCore parts is void if you hard chrome the parts. Any idea why this would be? Does hard chrome weaken the metal?

If done improperly, hard chrome can result in hydrogen embrittlement. High strength steels are especially vulnerable. Since Brown has no control over who does your chrome plating (Could be Virgil Tripp or Cogan:) or it could be your local auto parts plater:( ), he can't warranty the part.
IIRC small pieces subject to bending (extractor) are problematic as well.
