Converting Thompson X drum to 30+ rounds

I read on *another board* where a member had his Thompson X drum converted from 10 rounds to 30 rounds. The conversion was $75. ;P I took my X drum apart and it looks like a very simple matter to cut a couple of new cartridge guides on the plasma table and convert it, but why only 30 rounds? Is the spring shorter in the X drums than in the L drums? It seems kind of odd that Thompson/Kahr would redesign the spring module and use different length springs for each drum. I suppose I could install my X drum spring module in my L drum and see what happens...?

I emailed Thompson and they say the X drum spring module is different than the L drum. It was redesigned when the AWB went into effect, and is a shorter spring than the L drum. So... 30 rounds is all you can get out of an X drum conversion.
