I bought an AR sling at a gun show, waste of $20. It was for the standard stock, which I can't use since I use collapsible stocks.
Where do you guys get your tactical slings?

If you want a 3 point sling there is some info out there to make your own for less money.
One (http://www.black-rifles.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=63)

I think this will be your best bet. The others posted are okay, but I prefer the hardware set-up on this sling; additioanlly, I like the single point attachment and the availability of positions where the rifle can be slung.

Another vote for Specter. Standard in the armory and at home.
Another vote for the Blackhawk S.W.I.F.T sling. I have one on my RRA Entry and it works great.

You can in fact use the standard GI sling as a 3-point with a tac vest on a collapsible stock (I've done so).
Go to www.lightfighter.com for a selection of the better 3 and 1 point slings.
I like the Giles Wilderness slings (wilderness.com)
also spectergear.com is excellent.
Tactical Tailor is good, as are others.

Fixed the url
For a 3-point, I like the Specter SOP. For a single-point, I like the one Wilderness makes.

You should be able to see it in this pic, Pilotkitten lightened it up for me (it was dark and the flash didn't do so well).
Assuming you have a standard 4-pos collapsible stock, the kind that has a slot (horizontal) just in front of the buttplate and below the tube. Take the rear of the GI sling and loop it through there instead of the usual sling swivel.
If you have a side-sling swivel (not underneath the front sight, but on the side) like I did, loop it through there. Assuming you're wearing a tac vest/body armor like I did, shorten up the sling and clip/snap it to you with a carabiner.
If you don't have the front side-swivel, you can loop it through the front sight base triangle.
Doesn't work as well as a real 3-point but it certainly does the job, I cleared several buildings and ran all over the woods using this setup.

There are so many choices. I wish there was a way to tell which would be better for different purposes.
My use would be for a patrol rifle. My specific issue is that in my normal duty uniform slings get caught on the department metals on the right side of my uniform.

i used a standard military sling until it got tangled around the maglight in the charger. i took it off after that. having to do felony stops with a pistol because your sling got tangled sucks.
i went to a specter gear CQB. haven't had any tangle problems with it either since the slack is near the buttstock and not the forend.

Any of the good singlepoint slings (Wilderness Giles, Specter etc), if you set it up right (high end of the loop over left shoulder) shouldn't hit your medals. With the carbine hanging straight down in front of you, it'll be out of the way but quick access.

FWIW, the Virginia State Police use a single point sling with HK clips on their Colt M4's, I'm sure the problems with tangling up on uniforms came up to them. I'm a huge fan of single point slings, as long as the weapon is reasonably light and compact (less than 8lbs). Any heavier, like a 20" shotgun or gizmoed-up AR, and the 3-point, which distributes weight better but is much slower on the transition, becomes a better idea.

It has been my experience that I will respond to a post with recommendations and then post my web site and they will come back to me and ask where they can buy them. ;Q

You have to be kidding right?
His post was informative and to the point. He sells many slings on his site, stated such, and gave the website.
He did not make any value judgements about any other slings or vendors. He didn't insist on one sling over any others.
What he did was answer the original question of where to buy a "tactical" sling.

Are not!
(I'm tellin'...)
I have the Profile Tactical 90 (as mentioned in one of the 1st links to AR15.com). I was recently made aware of the slings at www.jtrusty.com and these look great as well. I like the idea of 1 sling w/multiple attachments theat stay w/the gun(s). For me, it's single point slings all the way!!

* edited to add: looks like the ASP sling and the one offered by jtrusty/T.A.G Insustries are the same.

I like the Eagle Industry Slings, I used one on my M-4, and use one on my A2, both are 3 points, I have used Wilderness on the M4 as well and liked them, and have also used some other brands, and like the Eagle the best.
I like the Giles slings, I use a 1pt and a 3 point from them, but perfer a standard "over the shoulder rifle holder" for most use...

Another good vote for Specter; I personally like the MOUT sling; single point slings I've found to be better when you have to transition from left to right, specially in Urban Warfare where you have the baddies coming from both sides and you need to shift your weapon from left to right without taking it off or having to twist a 3-pointer in an akward, uncomfortable way to get a shot.
