View Full Version : Well, fixed my Smith in five minutes.
My Smith was slide locking prior to having an empty mag. Took my Leatherman file to the slide stop and fixed the problem in five mintues.
Had a range session yesterday and she is running fine now. Great .45.

Just curious, new gun or used? How many rounds through it before the problem? What mags were you using?
Purchased new.
Would do it once or twice in 100 rounds from day one.
Mags (8 rounders) were a mixture of the ACT mags, Wilson 47D. My seven rounder mags didn't seem to cause it. They are a Kimber and some other off brand.
Would mainly do it with WWB value packs. 200 grain plus P Speers would run like champs.
The slide stop was a little outta spec. Made contact with the advancing cartridge in the magazine and caused the prem. slide lock. I posted this a few weeks back here and some suggested what I did and some said to order a dimpled slide stop.
The file worked great. Weapon is only at around the 500 round mark IIRC. Great shooter. I was using Master ammunition yesterday and keeping all rounds in the 8 ring and in at 25 yards offhand.
She's a great shooter.
And by the way, I used to reside in Greer, SC. Went to Riverside High in 84 and 85.
Know where that is?

Glad to hear your problem is solved but that is the first time I've heard of that on the Smith.
I just moved south a few years ago but I know Greer because a friend owns a gun shop there. Nice little town.
