View Full Version : SW 1086 ???'s
Considering buying a 1086 NIB.
Educate me on SW USP's.
Also head to head , G20 vs. 1086.
G20 is an excellent 10mm platform.
Can the Smitty hang with the 20?
If the price is right I'd definetly jump on the 1086 as they aren't very common, so resale wouldn't be a problem. As far as compared to a Glock, I feel that they are equally strong and accurate, with the higher magazine capacity going to the Glock 15 rds as opposed to 9 with the S&W. The Glock is also a much easier weapon to work on with tons of spare parts floating around. I have a 1006 and a 1076 and I love them, but I also have an excellent supply of mags and spare parts on hand just in case. If you get the 1086 could you post some pics I'd love to see it.
Grab 1086.
Lot of G20s around.

Both guns are durable and reliable in the extreme. That makes it all about trigger and grip. The S&W is a big grip, but it is a single-stack and therefore narrower. The 1086 has a DAO trigger and does take some getting use to though. Once you get the trigger down it's quite accurate. The G20 has a wider grip, but you get an additional six rounds in the mag and that wide polymer grip does a great job of minimizing recoil. With either gun you will be well-armed.

I agree with the above posts in most every respect. The 1086 is a rarer gun and should always have a strong resale value in spite of its DAO trigger. However, from a utilitarian standpoint the Glock 20 simply outclasses it. It is lighter, holds more ammo, and is at least as accurate.
Here's my NIB 1086:

I could take more pics if desired - even take side-by-side pics of the Glock and the S&W's.
My compliments bambihunter, you don't see many 1086's fequently and NIB is a rare treat. Thanks for sharing!
The DAO trigger is a major issue.
I will pass on this deal:(

Just curious... But you like glocks (based on your sig line) but you won't buy the 1086 because of its DAO trigger??? Why not? I have both a 1006 and 1086 and the trigger on the 1086 is very nice - short and consistant - and it is actually closer to the trigger on my glocks. Anyway, I was just surprized to see your comment and I was wondering what turned you off to DAO.
Thanks.
Also, is/since you are going to pass on this deal, would you care to post where it is here??? ;)
ditto.
My 1086 DAO trigger is nice. slow fire @25yrds net me groups on avg under 2" offhand.
Double fire is strange at first but soon you get used to the longer ( but not neccessary heavy trigger ) pull. The 1086 is a nice carry piece due to it being the same for each shot.
As far as durabilty it is just as strong or stronger than the G20 and the heavy frame soaks up recoil mighty good.

1086 is a great duty weapon, carried one for 2 years, it had the best trigger going out of the box, on any weapon I have used, wish I still had mine

Here's the one I just picked up. I've already got a set of S&W curved back grips on the way for it.

I can say I don't like the DAO triggers as well as a DA/SA setup, but the 1086 is very smooth and does really rival a lightened Glock's trigger. With only 1,660 pistols produced, it is a fairly rare gun; get it for collectors/nostalgia purposes if nothing else.

$700 for a DAO pistol is too much for me.
$600 shipped I would do it. DAO is not my favorite but only if the price is right. Now if I could find a NIB Delta.....;f
