For quite a while I've been meaning to replace the carrier key on my AR-10 that was bent when the carrier group was dropped just right (or wrong I suppose) on a hardwood floor. I was a little annoyed when I discovered that Armalite will only respond to requests for repair via a written letter, but sent them one as I wasn't comfortable re-staking the screws myself. A few days after sending the letter I get a call from one of their service representatives. She told me that the factory is now using red Loctite instead of staking the screws and inquired as to whether or not I'd feel comfortable making the fix myself. I said yes and she advised that they would be sending me a new key and screws, at no charge even though it was my fault that I dropped the part.
I really appreciated the fact that the company made this effort to save me some money, instead of just asking me to send the thing in to them. And I really appreciated that they are giving me the parts for free; $15-20 more ammo I can buy now :)
I just figured I'd share my positive experience...

Your experience is better than most. It depends on who you deal with.

My experience says you were the exception, not the rule. Good for you.
My last ( and I mean last as in forever) experience with Armalite was when they charged me $39.50 shipping for a 3lb, $400.00 box of parts. I am about 200 miles, (UPS next day) from their facility. Figured it had to be mistake, called, and was told that was the shipping and they could do nothing about it ( right!). I just wrote it off to experience. Needless to say, I don't call them any more.
