View Full Version : I want on the G20L train! Low-down please.

I sold one of my backup guitar rigs recently, so of course I've got blow it on a firearm. I was initially going to just pick up another 1911, but I have always wanted a 10mm. That G20L setup has pretty much swayed me away from the 1911 and toward the G20.
I hunt quite often (and live in the country) so a 10mm seems like great way to go for BUG or even as a primary hunting arm for that matter.
So one of y'all G20Lers please give the low-down on it if you could.
What all do I need? Is it reliable, etc.
Thanks!

Nicks "My 20L BarSto Hunter" thread has most of the info. Basically, you could buy a .45 caliber longslide for 6" barrels from http://www.lonewolfdist.com/ and get a conversion 10mm barrel from, I think BarSto (?).
I'm waiting for Lone Wolf to complete their design for a longslide with a .40 caliber breechface. Latest rumors are they should be out next spring. Then you could decide on a regular aftermarket 10mm barrel or Glock's factory 10mm 6" barrel.
I'm going to use my Glock 6" barrel, so the only non-factory parts on mine will be Meprolights and the slide itself.
Post pictures if you get one!

WOOHOO!!! I've got my G20 with nightsights, now I just need to get the rest.:)
Congrats! I thought you were going to build a G20L from the ground up.

I figured I'd want to carry it, so I went ahead picked up the G20 for a start. Just wanted to have all the options.

PM me tonight when I'm at home and I've got a saved file with all the details, suggestions, and prices.
Bottom line is that you'll love it in 10mm and I recommend getting a .45 barrel and mags also so that you can convert to 45 because it's a blast to shoot 45s, 45+Ps, and you can even step up to the 45 Super out of that long slide!

I tend to believe that Glock "has not" approved this...but stating that Glock "does not" approve of this seems to be either a poor choice of words or just plain false (probably both I'm guessing). Please show me where an official Glock representative has stated that they do not approve of this conversion. Inquiring minds want to know. ;)
Remember that adding this slide is in no way different that adding an Advantage Arms .22LR conversion slide (for example) or even swapping in a factory Glock 6" "hunting barrel" on your G20 from time to time. None of these equate to permanent "alterations" to your firearm. Sure if an AA conversion or a Bar-Sto conversion KBs on you...Glock would not be the one to cover it, but I have never heard of Glock stating that dropping a conversion slide on your pistol was a "no-no."

Ja, nasowas. Glock wants everybody to use Glock stuff. There are better options for barrels, etc. Whatever floats your boat.

Have read several of these threads and am slightly confused as to which frame would be the best to start from for a long slide conversion. My understanding is that at least one was built from a 45, as the owner was going to get a 10mm ejector to install, but others are talking about converting G20's. So which is the best place to start from and why? I have been shooting 10mm for a time, but up until this point have not owned a Glock. The more I am around them, the more sense the system makes as a practical foolproof weapon. Some of us curmudgeons just take a bit longer to catch on to the obvious.

Forgive me as I am new to this forum(not Glocks)and not very proficient with this machine(computer), but I'm not seeing the advantage of the longslide conversion over the factory 6" bbl. other than site radius.Which is lost if using optics.
Thanks.

Yep, that's really about it IMO. That said, I can hardly tolerate optics on large revolvers (tried it, but went back to irons) and never on pistols. That's just me.

For me the appeal is shooting the hot stuff and the ability to then have a 10mm (w/ a heavy bbl) aswell as a .45acp longslide.

Don't forget... it just looks better. Much better.
Add to that, it's a slide made from a steel with normal heat treatment, rather than Glock's essentially case-hardened finish. Good for durability, bad for modification.
Aftermarket sights, slide ride optics, front serrations, any sort of metal mod... machining a Glock slide will make most any normal 'smith sweat, and probably swear, whet it shatters his bits.

I guess shooting 310 grainers at 1250 fps from my 44 mag. makes even the Double Tap stuff seem managable in the G20.;)

Man, this thing is a blast to shoot! ;f
Is the extended slide release and mag release worthwhile?

So, Chuck, do you actually have the whole longslide setup yet or are you referring to your G20?

The full meal deal! The G20 by itself was fun while I was waiting for the longslide and parts, but longslide just increases the overall entertainment value. Plus I love having a .45 longslide.

Hey COGlocker,
That's a sweet RRA! I like the mid-length forearm. I have a 16" Bushy and the barrel sticks out just a little too far for my taste. Looks like RRA took care of that quite nicely. I've heard nothing but GREAT things of RRA. That should be a great rifle!

All I would add to the RRA would be one of the Vltor stocks.

FWIW, here's one of my middys. I've since taken the vert. grip off of of this one it since I just couldn't re-train myself to like shooting with one. My other rifles are more "K.I.S.S." in configuration though...

Hey Guys,
I was over at Caspians website looking for a receiver for a 1911 Delta Gold Cup build I am getting ready to do and found what may be a source for long slides "see link below". I wonder if caspian will make a long slide for a G-20 and then you would not have to do the 45-10 conversion...

Also, LW is making a regular G20L slide that should be available this spring.

You guys using KKM bbls, do you have any problems with them? I own a KKM 357 bbl for my G29 and it has caused several problems. The most annoying of which is that it locks all the way back (past the slide release). I looked, and the slide is actually catching on the bottom side of the bbl. I can see a wear mark on the bbl where it is happening. I know it's not really G20L topic, but I'm considering that mod, but don't like the idea of using the KKM bbl if problems are normal.

No problems with the KKM barrels here. Don't have a .357sig barrel, however. Guide rod and spring perhaps?

It's almost Spring!!! ;)
I cant wait to order my long slide:P ColoradoGlocker is awesome.
Does LW have any slides in stock at the moment? any update on when to expect the new options?

:) Even after getting your longslide, that excitement will not die down. My G20L is my favorite pistol and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

+1
I dig my DEagle and have a favorite 1911, but I still can't put down my G20/21L (especially since I've been reloading). I'm jonesing for a HK USP .45, but unless I get a Tac and a Can I don't see it passing the Longslide. It's just loads of fun!
