Can someone tell me what this part is and how it could suffer damage and need replacing ? the part does exist, is sold, but is not shown in the parts diagram.

It fits in the FP channel and the FP assembly goes inside it. It generally stays inside the FP and unless you refinish your slide you dont need to replace it.

Are you sure you are not referring to the black spacer sleeve that is part of the firing pin assy.?

yeah i'm pretty sure he isn't referring to the spacer sleeve. the channel liner is indeed a part that isn't on the diagram. as stated before, the only time you would need to replace it would be having the slide refinished. i replaced mine just for giggles and the old one looked just like the new one....with 10,000+ rounds through it.

I had one pull out of G19 removing the fp assembly. Just push it back in, beveled end first.

If a channel liner does happen to come out when the firing assembly is removed, make sure the metal channel and plastic channel liner are clean and free of oil.Oil is sometimes the reason for this happening.Installing a new liner would be a good idea if possible.

Once in a great while, crap will enter the channel liner & cause friction between the f.p. spring & the liner, possibly scratching the inside of the liner, necessatating replacement. I've had this happen on a customers pistol. The usual reason for this happening is TOO MUCH OIL . It traps gunk in there. Best bet is drydrydry, as the polymer is self lubricating.
When in doubt, DON'T oil it !

Perhaps a light dusting with powdered graphite?
