What is the diffrence between a german built ppk and the new one.
Also what is the diffrence between the PPK .380acp and the PPK/s .380 acp?
Size - the PPK/S is slightly bigger. Something about some gun act in 1968 so they had to change the design for the U.S. market.

I believe Walther made the gun slightly longer (barrel lenght?) to meet US laws. Other than that not much. MichaelT will probably chime in on this.

Because of the GCA of 1968, which used weapon height as a criteria for importation Walther basically put a PPK slide on a PP frame so the pistol would be tall enough to meet the import regulations.
Afaik the difference between German PPKs and S&W PPKs are that the the beavertail has been extended to prevent slide bite and the new ones are made of stainless steel.
I have one of the new S&W PPK/S and I can say definitively that the extended beavertail does not prevent slide bite - at least not on my hand. :(
But it has performed flawlessly over about 400 rounds.

Ok I'll chime it He's nailed it This all from 1968 gun control which came as result of that day in Dallas and Loss of other people from those times Bobbie and King. I was off visting strang land and helping with population control and in off time helping to improve their gene pool with new and improved American made models in stead of French models.
Those were trying times which we still suffer from. I can remember walking into K mart type stores and they would have Barrels styffed with Military surplus rifles Dig around find one you liked pay the 19.95+ tax and have a nice day. WE lost that freedom and will never get it back.
If your getting bit by new S&W PPK'S you have huge hands or griping way to high. Iam a large man 6'3' and 300 with big hands and have only been bit by the Baby Browning 25auto then only once. Never by any PPK series pistol. I just had a thought their are some S&W 's that were made doing change over that used older frames I saw one few weeks ago Same frame as mine(short tang) but marked S&W Do you have a older S&W?
