Has any one found that shok buffers such as like the wilson comabt version have to be used to protect from excessive frame battering....?

I've been using the Wilson Buffers for years now. If the gun works reliably with the buffer in place, then why not use it?

Has anyone seen a gun with signs of "excessive frame battering" ?
I've seen cracked frames - at the slide stop notch. I don't know if shock buffs would have prevented these.
I use shock buffs in every pistol that gets shot a lot. I've never had a problem with them.
It's probably more a piece of mind thing.
I would first make sure your recoil spring is tuned for the loads you're shooting.

Scott, I have, but they competition .38 Super guns used with very zesty loads and weren't .45 ACP 1911s and weren't everyday person pistols.
I'm not a big fan of buffers, though they are standard in H&K USPs. I'd change the recoil spring before resorting to buffers. But, that's just me. <c>b
I haven't fired a 1911 gov model in the last 20 years without one in the gun.
Probably 9-12 over that timeframe and all gov models have had no issues using them. Street or competition, doesn't matter, they wear buffs.
I'd be leary of using one in a commander and won't ever use on in the officers size models. The smaller the platform away from the original 1911, the more issues you will experience with the buffs.

waste of money.can jam up gun if they start comming apart.JMbS 1911 WAS DESIGHNED TO RUN WITHOUT A SHOK BUFF!
Takes 500-1000 rds or more to get them to that point.
Cleaning the gun lets one examine the buff and replace as necessary to avoid any of those issues.;f
Now putting expensive sights on a gun, thats someones waste of money.~hg
