View Full Version : Out of battery discharge
Some friends of mine came out from CA to shoot their guns, and wanted to try my G19. During one of the shot strings, i noticed the shooter's slide was about 1/8 or 1/4" out of battery. I yelled 'stop' but apparently his 1/2 coconut sized ear muffs prevented him from hearing. He discharged, the gun stovepiped.
The casing was bulged a bit where it was unsupported, but otherwise everything looked fine. The issue didn't repeat itself again. I will try to find the casing to possibly take pics, but i can't remember what we did with it.
The G19 was '01 production, E series but not on the recall list, probably close to 1000 rounds.
Anyone else experience this?

My 19 will not fire out of batery, or i should say out far enough to bulge a case and jame.

I thought the same. I own two of these things, the first one has approximately 5000 rounds through it, no problems.
Stuff happens i suppose?

perhaps a fluke of some sort, maybe a bad round. I would shoot it some more and see if you experience the same thing again.
the funny thing was, i wasn't even shooting it at the time, and i've shot the gun some since then. I'll take it out for a few more boxes of Winchester White box this weekend.

Odd, I have seen my Glock 19 go out of battery (about an 1/8") a few times and it did NOT go off.
(The two causes for the above is when the fresh round fails to feed and when the shooter rides the slide close.)
What kind of ammo were you using? Wonder if the primer stuck out a bit????
Just noticed that you are using WWB. They're QC is a hit or miss. Try using hotter loads like CCI Blazer.

Make sure it is unloaded and trigger reset. Push it out of battery and take a picture/measurement of the farthest position it will still fire. I'll measure a couple of mine for comparison.

Here are a couple picks of my G34. First pic is in battery.

Second pic is out of battery. Max firing position of slide.

Third pic is chamber block at top of slide out of battery.

It kinda looked like the second pic, but i was behind and to the right of the right handed shooter. It was enough that i noticed it, but i was watching his hand for the signs of recoil anticipation.
I put 100 rounds of WWB through it this past weekend, not a hiccup.

What is a batery and a jame?
