Heat Mirage

While shooting in a match today, I found that excessive heat mirage was coming from the exposed barrel. Outside of spraying water on the slide and barrel, does anyone have a practical solution to eliminate or mitigate the problem?

I think it would be a rarity , no wind ,hot enough too cause heat waves .Maybe lock the slide back for more airflow while your waiting.

In central Arizona, it isn't a rarity, unfortunately. I'll just going to sell it and get a 17.
