View Full Version : Practice/Carry Ammo?
What do you suggest for carry/practice ammo for the Glock 19. I just bought a G19 for carry, practice/fun, and maybe competition... Would like to know what you recommend before I go to the range.

I practice with whatever is cheapest at walmart, I carry winchester rangers. Of course, shoot what you are going to carry.

Can't go wrong with Winchester White Box (WWB) 115gr for practice, 100 round value packs at walmart can't be beat. For carry, I personally suggest doubletap 124gr. If you don't know what that is, do a search on here for it and then check out doubletapammo.com
For practice, as the others have already said, it's tough to beat the white box 100 round value packs at Walmart.
For carry ammo you have a lot of good choices, and there are a lot of opinions out there about what's best, some like the light fast 115 gr +P+, others like the slower 147 gr bullets for better penetration. I think splitting the difference and using a 124-127 gr +P or +P+ is a good idea. (although currently my G17 is loaded with 115 gr +P+ because it's accurate and I got a bunch for free.)

WWB fr practice, walmart pricing is awesome.
For carry, i've been using winchester's personal protection hollowpoints. I forget the grain count.
Thanks for the input!
I've heard of DoubleTap via GlockTalk. They have 115gr, 124gr, and 147gr JHPs. Never seen it before in gunshops, so I'll probably have to order it through their website.
I have always used cheap Wal-Mart Winchester's in my 92FS. I normally use Wolf 115gr for practice.
I've used all different kinds of Federal, Cor-Bon, Hornady, Black Hills (currently using), and Remington.
Didn't know if anyone has had problems with anything through their G19s (Example: feeding issues). I currently use only Winchester Super-X in 115gr/147gr for carry.
What about Speer's 9x19? I've only used their .45GAP ammo in my G37 because that is all that's available, right now, around Indy. I've heard people talking about Speer's Gold-Dot as their concealed-carry.
Again, thank you for your help. I'm off to Wal-Mart and the gun shop...

I practice with WWB 115gr FMJ and carry WWB 115gr JHP. I like to practice with what I carry. The JHP is inexpensive enough that I can shoot it out every few months and it's not going to break me to replace it.

All my 9mm Glocks use CCI Aluminum case Blazer for practice and CorBon 115 Gr +P for defensive use.

For the range, I like: Blazer Brass, Blazer, Fiocchi, American Eagle, Rem UMC, and WWB. Sellier & Bellot and Geco fine, too. For carry, I am stocked up on Federal Hi-Shok 115 grain 9BPLE and 124 grain HST. Speer Gold Dot and Rem Golden Saber also good. :)
Practice: Wal-Mart or S&B
Carry:
Federal 9BPLE 115-grain +p+
Speer GoldDot 124-grain +p
Ranger (I forget the grain; 127?) +p+

I practice with what I carry
I only shoot one type of ammo
9mm 124gr Federal Hydrashok
i buy these by the case 1000rds
50rds per box not the BS boxes of 20
I get the boxes of 50 for the same price some local shops want for the boxes of 20
i could save a little money buying hardball but I just feel more comfortable always running premium ammo thru my 3 19's that i carry everyday

For plinking I use Wolf 115 gr ball ( $6 per 50 ). Formerly used WallyWorld Winchester 100 rd packs but the last case shot like crap, accuracy and function-wise.
I prefer to carry Corbon 100 gr PowerBall +P, I find these very accurate.

I'll shoot whatever Walmart has cheapest for practice. Usually WWB.
I carry Speer Gold Dot 124+P or 147gr - Always shoot a few mags full of my carry ammo when I go shooting
Practice: Walmart Value Pack 115 grain
Carry: Corbon 125 grain +P JHP
I have the G26 and G19, but carry the 19 for the most part.
I practice with 124gr NATO FMJ and WWB 147 gr.
I carry Speer Gold Dot 147 gr std pressure, or the GA Arms 147 gr Gold Dot in +P.
I try to keep the "feel" of my practice and carry loads as close as possible, and the above combination works for me. Of course, I do include my carry loads with each practice session.
