Buying an old glock 19, questions

I found someone willing to trade me a glock 19.

He has mentioned to me its an old one he had in the save since aproximately the late 1980's.

With it he has 2 non-drop free mags, with the U notch at the top of the rear of the magazine.

Have their been any feeding issues with these guns and the new mags or followers?

I realize I will probably need the gun to go to glock for a frame upgrade or have the parts shipped out to me, but what about the old style extractor? Is that a drop in part or does that need a factory to do?

Send it back to Glock for the upgrade and go buy yourself some more mags.

Then shoot the piss out of it....


Glock 19 is a good pistol in any generation, IMHO.

What was the upgrade,by the way?

Would it be unsafe to shoot as is?

I doubt the gun falls in the upgrade age group. Remove the slide and barrel. Are the metal parts inside the frame silver or black? The black ones were covered by the upgrade (to silver parts). If not, shoot the snot out of it.

My 2nd gen G19 feeds perfectly on any mag I shove in it, whether it was the original NFML, 10 rounders, G23 mags or the current 15 rounders.

If you get the extractor changed, Glock will cut a 15 degree notch.

The six part upgrade involves the inner trigger parts. I believe the nickel spring steel is more durable???

If it's black send it back. If it's silver you're in the clear.

Like DLM said, your 2nd gen G19 should not have any probs feeding HP's.

I just picked up a used G19, 1991 vintage. It was filthy, has a ton of slide wear and a beat up frame. Lots of character. Came with an 8 Lb connector, I swapped it out for an old (black) 5 Lb conector and a NY1 trigger spring. It's a turned in Virginia Beach Sheriff's dept gun, looks like someone carried it in a holster it's entire life. Must have banged the grip against 1000 things. I need a new recoil spring then I plan on shooting the snot out of it.
