How much better would the 9mm cartridge perform in this little carbine (accuracy, velocity, energy) than the same round would perform in a typical 4" barrel pistol?
Comparisons at the muzzle, 50 yards and 100 yards would be helpful to me. Naturally, these numbers are readily available from ballistic tables as a handgun load but I cannot find performance data for the 9 x 19 round fired in the longer barrel.
Thanks Millions!
Terry,
There was a thread on AR15.com awhile back concerning 9mm carbines. Someone had tested 3 carbine, the Ruger was one of them and several pistol. The velocity gain was not so great on some 9mm they gained. 100-150 ft per sec. All the powder is burned up way before the round even reaches the muzzle.
I consider a 9mm carbine as a close range weapon. While you can hit at 50 or 100 yards and the accuracy would probably be pretty good with the Ruger.
I have a 9mm AR and use it as a range gun. Mostly indoors and under 50ft. If I find the thread from Ar15.com I post it here.
Terry,
Take a look at this. The 2nd page has the velocity comparisons.
