Well they aren't in Mass, however Gemini Customs does a lot of bobtails and they do scales and checkering too. I've always heard great comments about their work. You'd have to ship it to them, but at least you'll know it is going to a smith with lots of experience in doing what you want done.

The second link shows their checkering and scales. The third link shows their bobtail work.

Let us know how it turns out. One issue I see is that the front strap of the 1911Sc has serrations. It would be better if it had nothing at all. I've been considering a bobtailed Sc too. Should make a sweet carry gun.
Have you ever shot a bobtail? I sure would like to shoot one before dropping the cash, you know?

I had the same thoughts. Then last week I jumped in and bought a Dan Wesson PTCBOB. I like the bobtail a lot.

I have not shot a 1911 that was bobtailed. My wife was going to order me a Brown Kobra Carry Comander had the order in with Mr Brown with payment about to be sent when low and behold Mr. brown realised I was from Ma and he cannot sell his guns in our state thus ended this dream. Anyway I am getting quotes and will decide what I want to do.
