I was at a gun show this weekend, and there was a guy in the back with a table of what looked like junk laid out...upon examining his junk I noticed a P9S in .45...he said it still shot sooooo...after some dickering I bought it for a little over 300 bucks...

It has an IC date code and has Idaho fish and game on the slide...i would rate the finish at 70%, and that may be optimistic...

Mechanically...I honestly have no idea...I broke the gun down and cleaned it, and the interior looks very clean and neat...the barrel was diry, there is no wear on the outside...the rifling does not look very good to me, but I am used to 1911 barrels, i dont know if this barrel is shot, or I dont know what I have...

The cocker, slide lower lever still works....the trigger pulls...which I think may be a problem because it does this regardless of whether the safe is at fire or safe...didnt know if maybe the safety didnt block the trigger, just the firing pin, or if this was bad...

Also, I loaded the one magazine that came with it with the only .45 ammo I had around the house (Remington JHP) and it loaded the first round fine, but when I just jacked the slide the current round will hang...problem with the extractor? magazine spring? or do they just not like hollow points?

At any rate, any advice is welcome...I cannot decide if I just want to turn this gun or actually try and fix it up into a shooter...I have no knowledge about these myself....

Also, if anyone knows a gunsmith (preferably in VA) that works on these things I would be much obliged...

Thanks

Kev

Awesome deal. Parted out the gun is probably worth 600.

It has polygonal rifling. It should look like shiny little waves.

Right, the trigger can be pulled on safe--it simply de-cocks the gun. Nothing wrong there. Although, generally it is reccomended that you lower the hammer with the cocking lever. Eventually the saftey will wear out and allow the gun to fire.

I would probably respring the mags and the barrel before you make any final judgement. The P9s was desinged before hollowpints were taken seriously by manufacturerss, so it may not work. Mine has worked fine with HP, though.

DANGER! Don't shoot your gun anymore until you have inspected or replaced the buffer. These guns are ancient and have a "polymer" buffer that will degrade over time. They are availible for around $12 so go ahead and get one from Numrich. If a P9s if fired after these fail it can lead to the buffer housing cracking and, eventually, frame damage. Here is a little web page that shows you what is involved.

very cool...thanks for the info...I actually did shoot it some today, I will not do that again until I check the buffer...

thanks for the info...

BTW>..it was very accurate at the 25 feet I was shooting it at so it appears the barrel is good...sweet!

Oh, and as far as the buffer, it is probably fine, I just think it is nuts to risk damage over a $12 part (and impatience).

Enjoy, you got a monster deal!

Just take the housing and tap it, open end down, on a wooden surface. It should fall out after a minute or so of this. I usually give it w quick "ratatat" on my kitchen table and it comes out.
