I want to get some really good 8 rd mags i have seen articles from wilsons about the 47D series mags and i have also found out that Kimber has a new High Quality mag they call the Kimpro Tac mag has any one tried any of these mags and what was your overall impressions of them I have a Kimber tactical Custom II 5" Goverment Model....?
IMHO, go with what you know works. Wilson Combat magazines have a proven track record, and most people love them. Only a very few people seem to dislike Wilson mags. I'd recommend the Wilson mag.
The new Kimber mag is just that: new. I've read about them, but not too many people have tried them.
Either way, I'd recommend to buy only a single mag and if it works in your firearm, then go ahead and buy as many as you want. If your gun does happen to hiccup with XXX brand magazine, you won't have to go through the hassle of selling all the mags you just bought.

I don't know anything about the new Kimber Magazine, but it would have to be a significant improvement to compare to the Wilson. Right now the CMC Power Mags are my pick for steel frmes 1911s'.
I'm sorry to be negative with Kimber, but the other guys are right....stick with what has been proven.May I add that you are also taking a small chance with reliability with 8 round mags versus 7. Its seems Kimber is finally realizing that their mags and extractors are just horrible and attempting a fix.

The Tripp Cobramags are getting a good reputation. I have shot from them and will buy them the next time I need new magazines.

Wilson and Tripp mags work great for me. Kimber is saying how great their new mags are, they said the same thing about their external extractor and we all know what a cluster that has been. I'll stick to what I know works, my Wilson and Tripp mags.

Wilson if you want a basepad and Metalform if you don't. No reason to buy anything else in my opinion :)
Take a look at Metalform's website. You can order any capacity with any follower and base pad you want. I prefer the metal rounded follower.

I only buy Wilson 47D's. No problems whatsoever out of the variety of stock, modified, high end, and low end 1911's I've used them with.
I got a Wilson 47D that fails to feed every now and then on the last round.
Figures that I would get a lemon. I ordered myself one and a buddy three at the same time. His run like champs.
Bout my luck. Haven't given up on it yet. Maybe it needs a stronger spring.

Here is the part number from Brownells for an ISMI spring for the 47D.

SSCS2 1911 Spring
ISMI are good quality Chrome Silicon springs.

Im pondering the same issue. I went to the range today to "pop the cherry" on my new Pro Carry II CDP. Out of a 100 rounds of WWB 230 Grain I had one FTF. I spoke with a few people also using .45's, and one gentlemen was kind enough to let me to let me use one of his Wilsons in place of my factory mag. What a difference, 400 rounds without a hitch.:) I too saw these new Kimber Pro Tac Mags advertised, but for me I am gonna go with what worked. Anyways, I wonder how much I could get for a stock Kimber mag on Ebay slightly used.~1 By the way, the Kimber is ACCURATE. At 40' I was able to group them at 2"...

My Kimber Pro Elite II was gerstinken with one stock mag. I tossed both stocks and got 3 Wilson 47D's and have never looked back.
The wilsons have been 100% for me.

The 47D's that you bought are they 7 or 8 shot, and do they fit flush or do they protrude below the grip a bit...
Thanx

8 rd with the black bumper pad beneath.
I usually carry em with 8 plus 1 in the pipe and then second and third mag 8.
I like these mags a lot.

Aren't all 47 D's 8 rounds with the slam pad on the bottom? I think 7 rounders, flush fits, etc. have different party numbers.
There's a 47DC, but I dunno how that's different than the standard 47D.
Mags are like ammo... I find what works 100% of the time, and don't stray from it.
For me, that's a Wilson Combat 47D full of 230gr. Federal Hydra-Shok.
