I'm thinking about having Y-B build me a gun, but was curious if anyone here had done it before. I know they have an excellent reputation, but do any of you guys have personal experience with their builds?

He builds Quality, and Test What he Builds before send it to his Customers. Zagger 11-21-2005, 13:11 Top notch, buy with confidence. Go to Louderthanwords.us and search for Steve Bailey's Colt Commercial build. The one with the 25 LPI checkering. Thats my baby.:) nemesis 11-21-2005, 13:13 Fondled and fired a full-house custom from Ted with a matched Kart barrel. Have yet to see it's equal in ANY semi-custom except Nowlin. Don't forget Ned Chrisiansen and Chuck Rodgers.... both excellent smiths aswell. akapennypincher 11-21-2005, 14:52 Originally posted by nemesis Fondled and fired a full-house custom from Ted with a matched Kart barrel. I will give you a full report when I get it. Combat_Jack 11-23-2005, 02:30 <-----Waiting on Colton to finish up a gun. SVTNate 11-24-2005, 23:49 Pac-Man, I look forward to seeing your pics. I wonder what the wait time for a Y-B is at the moment? I think I'm gonna pick up a Springer GI and send it in to Y-B for the 1* Enhanced package, as soon as I get my TRP back from the Custom Shop. I think I'm gonna pick up a Springer GI and send it in to Y-B for the 1* Enhanced package, as soon as I get my TRP back from the Custom Shop. I have an unfired Springer GI that I picked up for $400. One of these days I will get around (and get the cash) to send it for a one-ass-to-kiss package. sparky315 11-25-2005, 00:28 I have a Colt series 70 LW Commander that Ted built. It was not a full-house gun, but it had some very good work done to it. His 'retro' fixed sights, Ed Brown beavertail with the grooves removed from the bump, reliability job, 20 LPI serrations on the frontstrap, crowned barrel, trigger job, serrated mainspring housing with the lanyard loop. The work was VERY well done, and I carry this gun every day in an original Summer Special. Best CCW gun I've ever owned. I would recommend Ted's shop very highly. Don Williams is another very good choice- I have a second 70's LWC waiting to go to him for a more extensive buildup. I also have a NRM Colt 1991 that thinks it wants to be a 1* Elite, but I keep telling it that it has to wait until next year to grow up :). SVTNate 11-25-2005, 01:46 Y-B doesn't work on Series 80 guns, do they? I'm under the impression that for one of the 1* packages, you need a Series 70 Colt or the Springfield GI. proactive 11-25-2005, 08:09 I'm under the impression that for one of the 1* packages, you need a Series 70 Colt or the Springfield GI. Per the website, they'll build you a 1* on a series 80 as well. nemesis 11-25-2005, 13:02 Originally posted by akapennypincher Also Don Williams at the Action Works in the Prescott AREA.... Doh, dunno how I could forget Don.... ;g Zagger 11-25-2005, 14:43 Ted works on Series 80 guns all the time. freepatriot 11-25-2005, 14:48 Seems like AZ is the center of the 1911 universe. Pac-man 11-25-2005, 19:01 Originally posted by SVTNate Pac-Man, I wonder what the wait time for a Y-B is at the moment? Mine is a full house custom on a Caspian frame. The wait time should be around 18 months by the time I get it-- that should put it here before xmas. I'm not sure what the wait time is for a person who sends one in today... I know Ted is getting busier all the time. People have figured out what type of work he is putting out. sparky315 11-26-2005, 11:41 Last I heard, wait time for a 1* gun was 6-9 months. A full-house custom by Ted would probably be 18-24 months, but that is always subject to change. If you have the cash now, go hang out on www.louderthanwords.us and check the 'for sale' section daily. Great guns pop up there all the time- that's where I got my Yost LW commander. In fact, there is a 5" steel gun built by Colton at Ted's shop that has been listed for sale for a while- it might be gone and the post not updated, but it wouldn't hurt to check. Looks like a great gun, and I'd buy it if I wasn't committed to having Don build my second LWC. vBulletin® v3.7.3, Copyright ©2000-2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd. | ![]() |
