Refinishing a rifle stock?

Back in my younger days, I was hunting one evening and got picked up my dad. I hopped on the back of the 4wheeler in the dark and laid the weapon across my lap. It enjoyed riding the rear metal rack for a few miles. Everytime I look at it, it tears me up. What's a man to do on fixing the pain? Thanks.
