Jarvis, Ed Brown, Wilson? Which one tends to work best with the least amount of fitting? Thanks.

I'd be willing to bet all will say the ebst fit is the one that came with the gun.
all others will need fit at least some to work right.

no idea, sorry
but I'll bet the one that's in there already works great!

I can't imagine a drop-in barrel being better than a stock S&W unless the Smith barrel is so bad they would replace it on guarantee anyway. To get any certain improvement in accuracy you would have to have a gunsmith fit barrel of any of several national brands. My 'smith likes Kart.
Then you would have to put it in a Ransom Rest to tell a difference, or give it to a major league bullseye shooter who didn't mind the recoil of the light gun.
Better to spend your money on ammo and maybe a shooting class, unless you ARE that major league bullseye shooter.

Agree but if I WAS to get an after-market barrel....Just humor me ok? Thanks.:)
PS: I get enough of a dose of common sense from my wife. You guys are supposed to be on MY side. :)
My Commander length Smith prints exceptionally well at 25 yards on a bullseye target.
While I may replace the slide stop with one of those "bulletproof" ones that are supposed to be indestructable and may upgrade to some night sights, the rest of the gun will stay stock.
Try some different ammo if your groups aren't what they should be. WWB does not print as tight as some other brands I have tried.

I'd go Brown or Wilson. But the last couple S&W's I handled had pretty tightly fitted as factory barrels go. I'm not sure you'll see much, if any, practical benefit from a drop-in. Still, there is the "cool" factor of just having something different. That said, there is also the Kart "Easy-Fit" barrel or even a Bar-Sto.
Personally, other than a ground up build, I've never owned a 1911 that had anything other than the OEM barrel. For the complete custom jobs, it's been Kart, BarSto or Schuemann barrels. The biggest difference in accuracy is my experience has been the fit of the barrel. Only the "open-gun" with a Schuemann HybriComp barrel was super tight but smoother than glass. That gun ran like a sewing machine and would shoot 1.5 inch groups a 50 yards all day long...I still kick myself for letting it go.

I would just trade that Smith for a Good COLT! Then you would have a real 1911a1 and wouldn't need another barrel or anything else. ;f

LOL> I have a real Colt and between you and me, I prefer my Smith.
Does Kart make an E-Z Fit barrel for the S&W pistols yet? If they do, that would likely be the path of least resistance and great fit.
Is there anything wrong with your barrel?
