View Full Version : I really want a Nighthawk Talon.
Someone tell me how crazy and insane I am before I actually buy one of these amazing pistols. I have been reading up on the Nighthawk Talon I and I am sold. I think MSRP is around 2200. Someone please talk me out of this. I should not spend that much on a CCW handgun.

If I would get a NightHawk, I would prefer to have just have it parkerized. I wonder if they would do that that, rather than the polymer overcoat?

Your life will not be complete without one.

It's not polymer. It's actually a ceramic overcoat. It is supposed to be 3 times more durable than polymer.
Boy those look nice.
Oh to have the means to afford one.
Muwahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Money well spent IMHO
Rich
Trumpet you are cold blooded sir.;f
Beautiful pistol BTW.
I, too, have an eye on a bobtail Talon II for quite some time now. The most handsome looking 1911 I ever seen!
To me, spending this kind of money on a CCW gun makes perfect sense. I'd rather spend this much and can wear it every single day, than leave it in the safe at home. It's like wearing a nice watch, don't you think?

I also wanted a Talon II when I first saw them. Actually, I bought one about a year or so ago. My dealer became one of the first dealers for Nighthawk and when I saw the Talon II I just had to have one. My dealer ordered one for me with the black finish and ambi safety. I got the gun in about two weeks. When I first took the gun out of the box I noticed the back edges of the grips (Bobtail) were not finished. I was a little bummed but figured I could just send the grips back and and get replacements. Also, one of the rear sight dots was missing the white outline. Again a bummer but a trip back to Nighthawk would fix it. So, off to the range I went. First few shots went fine until I noticed the gun was cycling slow. I thought maybe it needed some more lube so I oiled it but it didn't help. After that the gun started to fail to return to battery. At this point I was pretty frustrated becuase I had just spent $2200 on the gun and it should be working! So I go back to my dealer and have one of the 1911 gunsmiths check it out. In addition to the sights and grips he noticed the guide rod head was too big and would not fit down inside the slide on the barrel, the slide stop holes were out of spec and the rollmark (Nighthawk Logo) was not level on the slide. Due to the guide rod head being to big, the frame had a lot of wear. At this point I was a little upset to say the least and my dealer called Nighthawk right then and they assured him they would fix the gun or replace it if needed, so back to Nighthawk it went with a list of what was wrong with the gun. About a week later the gun was back. Upon taking the gun out of the box, I noticed the rear sight had been fixed and the slide seemed to cycle better. Unfortnately that was it because the rollmark was still uneven, the grips were unfinished and to top it off, the checkering on the frontsrap was crushed (not a big spot but hey for $2200 someone should be more careful when putting it in a vise). At this point, I told my dealer I was not satisfied and I didn't want the gun. He was just as upset as I was and made it right for me with a different gun. The thing is I own four other handguns that were made by the same gunsmiths that built that Talon II so I know they can make a quality gun, actually that is the whole reason I bought the gun because I have been so happy with the others. Now, this was an early production gun, serial number was in the mid 100's if I remember correctly and I also know of a couple of other people at the range I go to that absolutely love their Nighthawks. For now at least, Nighthawk will not be getting anymore of my business. This is not meant to be a flame against Nighthawk, just my experience. As I said before, I know a couple of people who love their Nighthawks and wouldn't get rid of them for anything. I just can't say the same thing for myself.

I appreciate your post.
As a gun community we need to tell the good AND the bad. If "custom" gun builders are putting out this type of crap we need to keep others informed so they can make well informed purchases. Too often people just get on here and try to sell everyone else on what they think the best gun is. ;g

If you spent the 2200 Bucks on the Gun would you still be able to:
Make you House/Rent Payment
Pay your Utility Bills
Provide Family with food, Clothes, and other Necessities of Life
Would the spend of funds jeopardize your Marriage
Would it put you in the poor house.
If not spend the money..... Nice looking 1911's

Hi AK.. Long time.
As far as I'm concerned Nighthawk is building the best looking pistols in the industry. Lord how I wish I had the extra money right now. Guess it will just have to wait awhile.

Pac,
I do agree with the statement that BOTH sides are helpful, BUT when someone's input is from first hand experience (not errornet rumor)your little ;g is not necessary.
I also had a not too good experience with a Talon II. Sent it back twice for failures to feed and chamber. They did fix the failures to feed but I still had failures to chamber completely.
FWIW,
I just got back from the range. My Talon fed, fired, ejected etc. another 250 rounds flawlessly. In fact I have 1000 rounds through her now, with NO FTF, FTF, FTE, etc.

Oh wait, I sold it. It was nice, but I couldn't find anything it did better than my Warrior (at half the price). I'll probably own one again...

You like the Kimber better ? See now i have read alot on forums that people are starting to not like Kimber and they have been getting not to good rating in customer service ? I am sure alot is internet crap stories. I dont know if I had the choise that Nighthawk sure did seem to look alot better in fit in finish than the Kimbers I held. I think cosmetically they blow them out of the water. The gun just looks sexy !
I love my Talon II bobtail and have never had a malfunction in 500 rds.

Like I said, the NHC was an excellent piece. I was never a Kimber fan due to the External Extracter and the Series II FP. With the Warrior, those are gone and I decided to give it a try. It shot better and has given me zero issues in the first 1000 rds. I paid $2200 for the Talon and $1100 for the Warrior. I would choose the Warrior again because it is a shooter and I didn't need $1100 worth of "extras" like serrations and checkering. But, as I said I will probably own another NHC.
