View Full Version : No more free Sygate or Kerio Firewall
time to find another firewall since Sygate will be gone. it's given me good protection over the last year that i've been using it.

I really like GhostWall

For easy set up and protection Outpost works it's just a bit dated.

The very best Zone Alarm I've found is version 4.5.594.000
It doesn't have the anti-virus checker which can cause conflict and makes for a larger slower program.Download it now while it's still available.

after reading the article about no more support for Sygate i then saw some suggestions for some other free firewalls.
i first downloaded Tiny Personal Firewall. i could tell right away that i wasn't going to like it. and after playing with it for a while i found out i was right.
so i then tried NetVeda. now this is a nice program. very simple user interface, nothing fancy. and much less obtrusive than Sygate is. i'm surprised i've never come across this program before.
plus it is not a resource hog like programs such as zonealarm.
here's a few links to it:

That sucks. Sygate was my favorite firewall. All Symantec is probably going to do is incorporate a few of the features into the next version of their bloatware, I hate them. I guess the search for a good replacement is on.

I use Kerio for now. But it sounds like I'll be looking for a new free firewall too.:(

My brother just told me about Foxie from Mozilla, the makers of Firefox. Might not be quite ready to go b/c of a few bugs but it might be worth keeping an eye on.

Foxie isn't from Mozilla, it's just an addon for Internet Explorer...and anything that 'integrates' with IE is just asking for security issues. Get the real Firefox and a real firewall:)
