First posted this at "non-glock firearms." Should have put it here.
------------------------------

Bought a P-95 new, recently, and really like the gun, but the plastic frame surface LOOKS plastic (shiny and smooth). It DOES have a nice matte finish on the underside of the trigger-guard, only, and I'm wondering why Ruger didn't do the whole frame that way.

Is there an aftermarket process that the polymer frame can be refinished (matte textured)to look more like metal?

I recently bought a KP97 and it too has the super gloss finish. I have read on Rugerforum about giving these finishes a light sanding but I am very reluctant to do anything drastic. I recently tried a little toothpaste on my finger and rubbed some areas lightly. It did seem to dull some of the shine. I am going to experiment a little more and maybe post some photos.

I was wondering if sandblasting might produce a uniform result - or maybe even some kind of acid etch. I'd want to try anything like that out on something else first though, and make real sure.

Anyway, thanks for the response(s), and please post any pictures if you go forward with it.

It doesnt take much. 800 grit will be enough to dull it down.

I had a P97 (wish I still had it) and put a Hogue hand-all on it. That worked just fine. I have heard, though, that some people have issues with the hand-all sliding around after a lot of extended shooting. I didn't experience that myself (you know, the mailman's brother's sister-in-law's third cousin had it happen), but it might be worth a look-see.
