Have any of you longsliders set this up?

Hey Al, I think the "Carver Mount" has just about the best reputation out there for the Glocks.

I am concerned that the Carver mount will interfere with my grip.
Can you give me some guidance?

I believe that the Carver mount can be installed by ME.

Do I have to have the ejection port lowered?

will I need to get the Hunter model?

Al, I've never had a problem w/ the mount interfering w/ my grip. I have pretty big hands, so my left thumb kinda sits on the left side of the mount, I personnally don't find it distracting. If you want a place to rest your thumb on, Bobby offer's a thumb rest for the mount as well.

Yes, you can install the mount yourself. It's advisable to use a soldering iron to just warm up the allen screws to loosen up the lock-tite prior breaking the screws free for installation, other wise you might snap the heads off. When I installed mine, I removed the bottom part of the mount and just slid it on the gun and slid in the replacement bolt that goes thru the frame and reinstalled the bottom part of the mount w/ lock-tite.

If you get the Hunter model, no you won't need to get the ejection port lowered. I bought the "Competition" mount which sits just a little lower, and have yet to get the ejection port lowered. I think it depends on the individual gun and ammo. The only time mine has failed to fully eject a pc. of brass was with some down loaded .40, other wise it runs problem free.

HTH,
Chris

I would get the Carver mount. I had a THE Accessories mount like the one sold on Glockmeister. When you place it on the pistol sometimes your scope will be canted because the arm in only on one side of the gun. The carver mount has supporting arms on both sides of the gun.

The old Optima 2000 is now up-dated and is called the JPoint. I have one on my G34 and have fired around 3,000 rounds with the sight. It is simple and works great indoors and out.
My GSSF (Biancchi cup) score is up from a lousy 388 to a 490 in a match last week.
I will install the JPoint on my 1911A1 ASAP.

The best part is that you don't have any fancy installation. The mount fits right into the dovetail of the Glock and the sight goes right onto the skinny mount. My gun doesn't look like a Buck Rogers space gun and the sight weighs half and ounce.

My JPoint is the 8 MOA and it is perfect for targets up to 25 yards.

You can find a knock-off of the sight with a 4 MOA dot for less than $100 on ebay.

I bought the Carver Hunter model also and couldnt be happier. It hasnt altered my grip and has never had a malfunction. Rock solid construction, ease of instalation, and second to non customer service from Bobby and Brenda add up to a cant lose situation.
Carver mounts are Terminator approved

Note the problems discussed in the attached GT link:

http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?threadid=482159

Dr. Optics failures and the comment about spending too much time finding the dot. Thats because the sight moved, it is attached to the slide, hmmm....

Because of the additional weight of my carver rig and using 147gr subsonic rounds I can put 17 rounds on target, fast and never have the dot leave the paper.

That's some Buck Rogers shooting.
